I offered very nice lunch leftovers to a homeless man in SF once. He turned them down because he was vegetarian!
Eventually we found someone who took them. :) This is a great idea and wonderful gesture.

but the whole goal is.. I cant help people without the inflow of resources.

there are soup kitchens and other food / clothes outreaches I reach out to. my business was DEPT FREE. in three months of opening. and 2000 sq ft full.

in the bad times facing our country ahead. the only way I can really help is to keep the flow of help going.
that is why im up date. im trying to figure out how to get the ball moving. its hard when you are only use to one way of doing stuff. the other avenues are uncharted. but i wont give up.. there are so many even here. that ARE in true need. and it makes me happy knowing.. if I can get my footing back under me. I am going to fund so much help for the needy

In the big city over from mine they did a news report awhile back about some professional non-musical buskers (aka beggers), they literally drive away in a new mercedes at the end of the day. On my drive to work there is a legitimate homeless man (pushes the same cart, collecting empties etc) down the country lane. He won't accept money from strangers too proud. However there are a few regulars who give him clothing, food etc which he accepts. During bad weather some people let him sit in their vehicles so he can get warm/cool out of the rain for a few minutes.

When I was working out of downtown one time many years ago what made me cynical was someone who was willing to trade me a bus ticket for some money so he could ride the bus. Really? Where you so stoned to realize the stupidity of your offer?

One thing i've noticed is the genuine beggers here tend to stuff their clothes with bags etc, often have mismatched and illfitting clothes, usually well worn. The professional ones smell nice most of the time. (Not in the I've got cologne way but don't smell of living outside day in and day out).

I'll usually offer an apple or something first. If they're grateful I may offer a token of money.

The problem is with a few of these people are they are substance abusers. So they want cash for said problem. Substance abuse to me is very serious and I have no tolerance whatsoever for this type of abuse now.

    Oh brother.
Maybe if the liberals in charge here in CA would quite spending, spending, and spending money we don't have, such "draconian" measures wouldn't be necessary.
Sorry, there's enough blame to go around...on both sides of the political aisle.
