... I'm such a cheap whore that I can be bough off with a McD's latte?

Be careful, Evan. The Spirit is always watching! :)

Old man Pierce just wants to throw chum in the water and watch the bloody aftermath.

The Spirit may be a food whore, but he requires a whole lot more to be bought in the real world!

He also is sweating his ass of at WDW. No spring this year apparently. Just winter and summer!

EPCOT yesterday ... gardens look great as usual. Pavement and film quality on Soarin absolutely do not. Felt very bad for the women I rode with who had never ridden before and who I made sure got seated in the first row after talking up the attraction and saying how it was worth the 30-minute wait. Perhaps, Danny Cockerell should be dealing with that pesky show quality stuff instead of hanging with drooling-Disney-candonowrong Fanbois at a D23 whorefest this weekend.

OTOH, in just four hours I was able to eat dinner, walk around the entire park (twice WS), watch RoE, ride Mexico, Nemo, LWtL and Sorain, and browse Mousegear, Art of Disney, new shop in China and all shops in Germany and Mexico. All while chatting with a good friend and former LP.com regular. Oh, I also saw a real-life couple of online celebs rushing away from a Davy Jones concert (was disappointed, I was expecting an organ concert by the dude with the Octopus face).

MK was packed today (no records were set for our pals on another MAGICal realm), but it was busy enough to extend the day from 11 to midnight. Lots of construction walls to keep the bored housewives in business. Saw the (supposedly) $750,000 'new' A-Lan bathrooms. What can I say? Nice enough to leave a deposit.

And saw my first Marvel products, two items (one Spidey, one themed to the new Iron Man 2 film) on sale in MK at Merchant of Venus. No more out of place than the other 99% of character merchandise.

Anyway ... just a brief update ... since I haven't even put up a trip observations thread from my DCL 14-nighter, who knows when I'll get around to putting all the thoughts I have online?

Oh, and to anyone planning on an MK visit on 5/16, my advice would be 'don't' ... park will be 9-5 due to the International Travel Pow Wow/Whorefest taking over for a private party that night. UNI has one the next time (WWoHP anyone?) and SW has one later in the week.

Now ... who wants to buy a Spirit dinner?

I would love to buy you dinner.

But you'll have to come here to SF to get it.

    I don't deliver.

It's filthy, as usual. EPCOT is always a offender of this...usually in Inno Plaza.

Spirit! Great report. Wasn't expecting that.

I'm starting to think that D23 is "bigger" than Disney...This is the "brand" people want to see and pay through the nose for? This is what they'll dedicate all their efforts to.

...Like it matters, D23 still sucks.

(It feels really good to say that openly, you know? :) )

In my pre-Eisner days I cant recall any time that a park VP asked me to cut hours just to save some money. Though I was asked on slow days...remember those?... to cut back on CM Hours if I could. In the post Eisner era I remember having 1 hour waits at attractions and being told to cut hours even though the wait time would increase to do so. All in the name of saving money.

The real problem with Disney is that Eisner effectively got rid of every person at WDW who knew Walt and understood exactly what he expected at the parks because they had been told by Walt himself. I worked for those guys. Many sentences started with "Walt would want..., When Walt was alive..." Instead of treasuring those people and their experience, Disney forced them into retirement. I have spoken to a couple of them over the years and they are angry and frustrated by what happened to them and what they see going on at WDW. In fairness I think Disney needed a little shaking up in the 80's because the people at the top were afraid of messing up the whole Walt vision thing, but a better use of those Walt people would have been putting them in positions where they can influence the qualities that Disney became known by.

I have no hope that Disney will ever return to its former glory. The company's structure would make it virtually impossible. There are so many levels of people between what is happening and upper management that it would be impossible for any one person to affect change. Even at the lowest levels managers have been stripped of any real power. It used to be if something need to be painted you could call the paint shop, write up a work order and in a couple of days a painter...who you usually knew by name...showed up and painted. Today you generate a work order. It goes thru several layers of oranizational garbage. There is a meeting that you're sometimes not even invited to and a couple of months later a painter shows up. If that is happening with things like a small paint job you can imagine what is happening with big decisions. I could go on and on about this, but I will end by saying that when I go to WDW today I can sometimes still be amazed but mostly I am sad and angry.

Since you made the inital reference, Chief Martin Brody will tell you chum is a very effective lure for sharks. :)

Enquiring minds want to know. Which online celebs, and can you really be a celebrity by spouting off BS on the internet? Is the dude with an Octopus face a reference to Bill Nighy?
