Different strokes and all. Fine. But it does seem odd to question the inherent value of SM as a ride that appeals. Certainly, argue maintenance and declining/increasing quality. But as for the "reverence" for the ride? I would guess it's that it is a thrill, without being too much of a thrill. Some of us really appreciate that. It's fun, but not scary. You don't drop/flip/roll or anything of the sort. You just go "whooosh!" really fast! lol Family ride on steroids. Appeals to the astronaut wannabe generation. True Disney escapism - give me the canvas and my fantasy world self will fill in the blanks! Going out on a limb, I'm going to guess that it is possibly a symbolic attraction of WDW worshiping regardless of quality & maintenance. Is that why it irks you that folks like it so much, EE?

Though, SM doesn't cover any of those schematics for me.

I NEVER enjoyed the speedway as a kid, but I did enjoy other speedways at local amusement parks. And I loved the heck out of it. And Little X "learned to drive" in Tomorrowland, at Tokyo Disneyland, and loved the heck out of it. The Speedway is not for us...it's for junior drivers. Trust me...it's a very, very important attraction.

Walt Disney himself was well aware of the importance of that particular attraction. ;D
