There have been things written there that have made me look at something from a fresh perspective. There have also been things I've read that were absolutely appalling and infuriating. But world events is what it is. I have seen people get just as angry and passionate and upset discussing DCA as Washington DC.

I am just trying to say is that I agreee with AD about the flowers and rainbows comment , ONLY because I have seen this person FIRST hand to to be all fun and nice and funny and yet behind LP's back they stab other LP'ers. I refuse to let anyone like that get to me and I kind of have to laugh at somone like that for thier low standered behavior. Although it it completely unacceptable!! But only some ( meaning myself , 99 and MM) have been attacked in this manner and when that happends, it's so VERY VERY hard to come on LP and see other LP'ers praising and bantering back and forth in fun with that someone who you know darn well has such a disgustingly ugly side to them. I think for me,I understand how the community gets pulled apart from time to time.

And I've been so very frustrated to see the same old dysfunction playing out for what seems like the zillionth time. Over the past two or three years, the entire tone of LP has changed dramatically. TiggerPooh1973 captured that very well in her post. Oh, sure, there were problems and hurt feelings then. That's always going to happen in any group of people anywhere. But the flare ups in those days were few and far between, and they were for the most part resolvable. Now the problems don't seem to ever be worked out. There are a small number of people who have been active in the last two or three years who are causing long term damage to the community. They say nasty things to others, but swear that they only say nice things and don't say anything at all if it isn't kind. They have fights and disagreements offline that spill over online. They take huge offense to imaginary slights (someone says something general, they assume it's directed at them) and go on rampages. They instantly jump to negative conclusions and seem to assume the worst. That happened to u k fan in this very thread, and it has happened to me personally quite some time ago. I was making a joke to another poster I'm friends with, and I got chewed royally by one of these newer (at the time) posters because she had no clue what I was saying and automatically assumed that my obvious sarcastic joke was a serious slam. And perhaps worst of all is the ugliness that is happening off the boards. The threatening e-mails and phone calls, the ganging up on people, etc. Now I have received very nasty e-mails myself in the past, so I'm not saying that's all new. But it's much more widespread lately. And in one case, a private, unlisted phone number was given to someone so they could make those threatening calls. . . almost certainly given out by someone who had been friends with the one about to receive the calls. I have made many attempts over the past couple of years to restore some of the former good community feelings and/or fun to the boards. Remember the thread, "Your Best LP Memories"? That got hundreds of posts in a matter of days and brought back so many happy memories for a lot of people. I've started threads in Community and Playpen (not very recently but within the past couple of years) to try to set up positive (Community) or silly, inclusive fun (Playpen) forums once again. And it just keeps getting overrun with either negativity or long streams of personal conversations that have nothing to do with LPers in general and would have been better served by a small group e-mail. That gets boring real fast. So because of all of this, I have become less and less active on the boards. And I see that many others have, too. But I'm seeing so many good people posting in this thread and expressing their desire for things to become positive and fun and happy around here again. So here I am, yet again, trying. But frankly, I have very little hope. It's possible, but I think it would take a whole bunch of people's effort, and I think it would take EVERYONE ignoring the people/posts that bug them but aren't serious enough to be adminned and calling out the posts that violate Community standards.
