Tony is not alone in playing politics at WDI. It is how the organization has operated for a long, long time.

And, I agree, a new ride won't solve WDW's problems. They're way too deep at this point. That's what the Decade (plus) of Decline has done.

They need to go back to what made WDW so damn special to begin with and raise the bar again in themed entertainment IN THE PARKS ... I don't care about Hidden Mickeys in the carpeting of my resort ... or character dining there etc.

They need to go in and add new attractions that are new and cutting edge, while keeping the hallmarks of what Disney is all about. And they need to get rid of old stale and poorly done attractions (no matter how recent their addition to the lineup!)

"I don't have any inclination to visit for work or play - a sad indictment on the state of the resort."

<<That's true. It's gotten pretty plain wrap around WDW. Another semi-themed hotel with endless hallways of rooms.
Attractions that still reek of the 70s and 80s mentality, and a World Showcase that has had no new countries in forever.
It seems to me they could make part of the attraction there if they intermixed some "hotel rooms" in the countries.>>

Hmm ... wasn't that part of Baxter's plans for Westcot?

(although I think WS needs far more thing than hotel rooms)

<<Disney, especially EPCOT Center, definitely does not need mega-millions spent on an attraction that will not attract a crowd.>>

No. They have many attractions like that as is. Mission Space sure was a great allocation of assets. After all, Disney planned to spend/install four centrifuges and then shut two off permanently.

<<Sorry, but the reality is no one will go on it if Tony leads it. Witness the lack of crowds at Lincoln.>>

I disagree. I think Tony absolutely could design an attraction that people would go on.

This is the spot where I think you have blinders or bias, Manny.

Lincoln has never been an E-Ticket. It never attracts huge crowds. It also isn't very pricey. And it wasn't like TDA told Tony 'You can have a $200 million E-Ticket where the ranch is or for T-land or you can redo Lincoln again, what do you want?' ... The man is only given small-scale jobs now because that's all the leadership wants him to do.

I don't think the man suddenly forgot how to design people-pleasing attractions and environments. No one had to go back and redesign the last park he had creative control over ... perhaps that's because it was a masterpiece and a template for what a 21st century MK park should be like. Everything was detailed. Everything was plussed and improved. People talk about the cost of DLP, but Disney will spend more on the money pits that are DCA, DSP and HKDL because they went in the exact opposite direction on them.

<<Disney is working on new stuff, just not necessarily at WDI. The next generation of entertainment has quite a crew working on it, and they have a large budget. Building passive omnimover rides is probably not on the front burner.>>

I dunno ... rumor has it that Mystic Manor at HKDL has gone from trackless to Omnimover (which I truly hope isn't the case) to save $$$.

As to NEXTGEN, I think people need to be realistic. The largest purpose of it is to seperate guests from more sums of money thru their Keys to the World cards and bracelets ... unless there's something you know that we don't, it really seems like tech that isn't doing anything to dramatically alter the whole Disney Parks experience.

<<As much as many would hate to see it, and I would lament it believe it or not, it is time for Tony to step aside and gracefully retire.>>

I think much like many others, he's being shoved in that direction. And I don't think that's a good thing.

Then again, I don't think losing folks like Steve Kirk, Tim Delaney, Chris Tietz, Rick Rothschild etc is exactly a good thing for WDI either.

    Ahhh.

I don't blame them. And it is fun...but it is a little lengthy.

How did the show look...save for old?

You views on how a lot of the park looks and what not seem to run rather parallel with my father (he is a civilian nuclear project superintendent with the DoD) so attention to detail is what he is all about. Things like paint on railings, trash here and there, gum, amongst others are the first to catch his eye. That has unawarely seemed to have rubbed off on me. I like to take note of anything and everything all the way down to the condition of paint and items INSIDE of rides.

Being an engineering student it is on the difficult side to stay completely on top of what individuals are working where and designing what. Tony on the other hand is a name that I have followed somewhat.

This is the first critique of yours, Spirit, that I have had time to read and take good note of. It has also sealed the nail in the coffin about not going this December as I do not feel like seeing the walls that you are ever more infatuated with :p

My father knew what the fence in front of Epcot was for; one of our trips he decided to ask the CM what its purpose was. The CM just responded " It is an anti-terrorism fence, gotta protect the big ball because that is what the bad guys are after." I agree with the bag checks are nothing more than a comfort feel to the average delusional citizen of this great nation.

I meant to comment on that earlier, and I can hardly wait to hear abouit it. I can't understand why anybody joins a discussion forum, and then becomes offended by what others say, and think. Life is filled with passionate people that all have different views. That's what makes life such a joy, and such a heartache. One must learn to deal with it.

That's what fanboys have been saying for 4 years though. I've read people who are saying the new version is just around the corner for many moons now. It's almost as laughable as monorail expansion or a new country in WS.

Evidently you haven't read the latest CIA analasis of the top 10 tagets of Al Qaeda Leo. Osama Bin Laden has put top priority on the Big Golf Ball at Epcot. He feels the capitalist war monger Disney Corporation is a threat to all of the Islamic nations.
