That is the key, respect instead of fear. Fear can get you bit.

    >>They don't seem like very fun pets.<<
Actually April, they are not only fun and interesting; they are very low maintenance. Only have to be fed once or twice a month, can be left alone for long periods:eek:0

I wouldn't necessarily just go and reach at one without first knowing the type of snake or the owners, if any.

My only regret is not getting the nerve to let the tarantula walk on me. I wanted to, so bad!!! But I was afraid and didn't even pick it up. Lovely creature, though.

So yeah, I'd definitely pet a snake. lol But a poisonous one though, I'm not so sure about.

But how anyone can call an oversized 8-legged land arachnid a "lovely creature" is beyond me!!

(and no _dad, I ain't never been to no snake churches, LOL---though there's a good Ray Stevens song about one!)

When I was in high school, an incredibly cute boy that I liked a whole lot had a six-foot long boa constrictor. He brought it to play rehearsal after school one day. In an effort to impress Very Cute Boy, I let him drape the snake across my shoulders. As I was walking around with Kaa draped in S loops on each side of my neck, someone made a sudden loud noise backstage. Evidently this upset the snake, and he promptly tightened up on my neck to the point where I could barely speak. I raced over to a group of kids and tried to tell them he was constricting my neck. They thought I was kidding at first, but soon realized I wasn't. It took four teenaged kids to pull that snake off me. I can only imagine how much harder (impossible?) that would have been to do if he'd been coiled around and around my neck. <shudder>

(Note I said "fairly easy." A big snake can be quite heavy and need several people to support it during unwinding.)
