The boring part was on the train. Pretty much nothing to see between Portland and Chicago but wide open spaces, no trees, flat land. I think it was 2 and 1/2 days, but it seemed MUCH LONGER.

We had to turn around and drive right back home. We didn't take vacations; too poor and had a brother at home who was too ill, much of the time. Fortunately my life has dramatically changed since then. I love to travel now.
