No, we just get tired of reading the same negativity over and over in a world that already has too much negativity 24x7. They also get tired of reading how things 'should be run' - and many ( not all) totaly neglect the business side of running the DIsney corporation- then when you bring that up- or someone who actually works in accounting management explains it - you get compared to Sarah Palin. -- It's funny this thread was started as it was on the mind the last few days as well. My oldest daughter actually asked me why I am not on LP much any more- since I used to be glued to it. It started with W/E section where a similar feeling as if one walks away from a bitch fest they are wimpy also existed. Suddenly if you said anything against president Obama- even if you actually lived where you could watch his entire careeer and had first hand knowledge of accomplishments and failures - Chi town politics connections etc.-- you were a right wing nut job / fascist, rascist et al because the politics of Nancy Pelosi did not appeal to you. Very good discourse was replaced by name calling and eventually just made the threads meaningless to me. -- I took some time off LP because of business demands and time I spend on running my own local school board blog and moderating that. I'll take the other approach from being wimpy ( and some day you'll explain to me how someone who grew up on the mean streets of the south side of Chicago is 'wimpy' - would be glad to discuss that with you my friend)... It appears to be time once again to take a sojourn and see if the crowd is any different after a period of time. Many of the people I have grown to know and respect over almost 10 years are Facebook friends so I will still be talking to them. -- I have no problem with people complaining - well thought out- here's why this can be better discussions.. I am not a Pollyana either, but when every single f'n thread has to bash DVC or else the Fanbois don't get excited -- or discussions of anything from food to caramel turns into mgmt sucks- they're stupid because they aqre not spending more than the $4B they are spending right now on DCA and HK -- don't they 'know' how any investment now will just explode attendance ? etc. It gets old. Funny people can infuse the supposed evils of DVC into any thread, but if one responds then they are the idiot. Well there may be some truth in that - as there is seemingly not logical arguments in many of these items any more. -- SO I tend to agree -- enough is enough, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, you can't argue with an idiot ( makes you the bigger idiot) - DVC is more evil than WalMart- speaking of which, WDW IS Walmart, All Disney managemet are idiots, 20 year olds know way way better how to run a multi billion dollar corporation, WDW ain't what it used to be, Uni is the King- they are on top of things up there, yadda yadda yadda... I am going to follow my friend ( where are you mpierce ?) from Texas into hiatus...with Christmas coming I don't feel like reading nothing but negativity the next few weeks. We just decided as a family we cannot afford to go to WDW next year for the first time in 22 years- so the subject is a little touchy here. We fail to see the ruins of Rome in Orlando...so we must be goofs. The economy has claimed me a casualty for one year to focus on needed items at home actually does affect investments from those who put pencil to paper. -- for some of those not on Facebook with me- check out community and I can get you an email. Or if you are friends with Lisann / Labuda/ DVCdad ( who also left here) ? KT / Roadtrip / Davewasbaloo -- they can tell you where to find me... Merriest of Christmas seasons to all...I hope all here find happiness somewhere

As several folks have pointed out, Disneyland was in SAD Shape during the late 1990's due to a management team that really didn't "get it" when it came to how to run a Disney Theme Park. Maintenance was allowed to slide - to the point where it actually became a safety issue (Colombia and Big Thunder Accidents). Of course, a lot of the discussion on "the boards" was on things like burnt-out light bulbs, or chipped paint. But when you let the tiny details go, people **DO** start to notice the change. And when enough of us spoke-up about it, things started to change - both the BIG things as well as the little things. Also, when you take care of the little things, they frequently don't develop into big things that result in injury or worse. It's become sort of a game for our family when we go to Disney theme parks to look out for burnt-out light bulbs. This was one of the tell-tale signs that things were slipping. It's become harder and harder to find these in Disneyland. I hope that very soon, it will also become hard to find at WDW as well.

Isn't there a way to get your point about quality across without demeaning others? How about being more tolerant of other cultures, even if that culture is middle American? And why do some of us stay if we don't like all the negativety? I'm going to equate it to my favorite radio station in my area. They play a lot of 'Silversun Pickups' and similar groups (snore) but they'll occasionally throw down a Little Lynkin Park or some Red Hot Chili Peppers. This makes them better than the other stations in town that play top 40, oldies (fine in small quantities) or other music I don't enjoy. LP is the station most likely to play the stuff I like, so I stick around.

It's a discussion board. I don't understand how or why you would just want to stop people from posting opinions in a place built for them.

I'm sorry KatieKate, but I see no real point in starting a topic to complain about the complainers. I understand your point, but it seems to me that you're doing exactly what you claim that you don't like.

I count as new around here, but am an oldie from other Disney boards and know many of the posters from other haunts. I personally have enjoyed this board for the last few months. But the issue being discussed of Pixie Dust vs. Doom and Gloom seems to be happening on multiple Disney sites. In fact, it even happened on another site I used to frequent about the show Survivor. I have to wonder if some of this is the growing pains of the world becoming accustomed to the internet. Let's face it. Boards like this have only been major main stream for a decade or so. At first we are all thrilled to find others who share our passions and interests. It's like a new crush, finding people who actually care about little known characters being around the parks for autographs, or know that the Tom Sawyer paint brushes exist, or want to share new found hidden Mickeys. And then it gets even better when these people are able to tell us things we didn't know about Disney. The whole experience becomes one of shared community benefit and we all are happy. We scour trip reports for tid bits of info we didn't know and can use to improve our own trips...... But then we start to hear fewer and fewer new things from other folks. We've heard them all. And the new crush is old and it isn't as exciting to have friends to share our passion for Disney with. And everyone on the planet knows our little tips and tricks, so we can't use them anymore to improve our own Disney vacations. So we turn to getting a fix through "what is different/new in the parks this second," even if we were there last week. Combine this with the fact that TDO is falling down on the job lately, and suddenly we are bonding over burnt light bulbs because that's all we have left. So I'm not sure that this is JUST because some of us are complaining too much. Some of this looks to me like it is growing pains for the boards of the universe. The newness thrill is over. Maybe the bad vibe we're feeling is stagnation, not negativity. I love my Disney, but maybe I do need a new hobby. That doesn't mean dropping Disney, but getting something new and fresh and different that gets the blood flowing again, you know? I don't know, I just am not sure that all of this is a result of the Doom and Gloom crowd. Does any of this seem reasonable to anyone else? Are you having stagnation issues on other boards you frequent? Or is this site specific for you? Just a thought.

That's when I helped form a new site, and joined up here.
