I've always enjoyed his music, but seeing him live was very special (much more intimate and less "noisy" than most concerts, I think...what an artist!).

I was jazzed to see Ray Charles as my dad was always playing him but I had no clue I'd like Sammy. Second time was Ray Charles with Ike and Tina Turner - OMG! They were so high energy. Tina Turner floored me. No comparison to TV, radio or records at the time. Ray Charles this time around talked and talked and talked so much people started to boo. I often wonder if he was well, a bit high. It was hard to tell and generally I'd recognize that. So my third time I was that thrilled to see him but he was touring with BB King and Bobby Blue Bland so I went. They rocked the joint. They all did solo sets and then came back together. I just remember losing my voice from shouting no no don't stop. LOL My fourth time was in Atlanta, he was older and it was more of a jazz set with a small band. He was terrific.

Held about 5,000 people, was in-the-round and the stage slowly rotated. I saw The Carpenters there when I was a kid, as well as Sammy Davis Jr., a few musicals -- even Bob McGrath of Sesame Street. LOL!

Big Fat Intoxicated Slob turned out to be Brian Wilson.
