They do this same backstage evac at Epcot after the big fireworks displays. Backstage exiting allows guests coming in for the second fireworks display to flow into the park up MainStreet or Epcot Mainbridge while the guests who are leaving exit out the sides. Less in/out clash. It works.....

I've been backstage at MK many times, and the only time I've noticed objectionable smells is if I'm standing right next to a dumpster.

And, no, I am not kidding.

We also been thru for crowd control & those times they had the trees lined up as mentioned. It doesn't bother me or I wouldn't take any of the behind the scenes tours but I can see where it would bother others.

While I understand why they need to do this, I don't understand why they don't setup temporary screens or barriers. The plants helped direct the flow of traffic, but a guest could easilly wander off the path back stage while nobody is looking.

During the backstage tour no cameras are allowed, but I see no reason why you can't take photos while exiting. I've also used it in reverse as a quick route to space mtn , after fireworks and before the 2nd spectomagic parade. This way I didn't have to navigate against a sea of exiting people.
