A little more is revealed about that as the show goes on.> Okay, thanks. But wasn't he told that this maid has worked at this house for many years? And he sees her as late teens/early 20's? That doesn't strike him as odd? I'm still willing to give this a shot. Although, consider that by the end of episode two: They know the immediate previous inhabitants died in a murder/suicide. Okay - I could buy that they'd take it nonetheless. But then they find out (at least the Dad) that an owner before that murdered the rest of his family by burning them alive and disfigured himself. This guy is pleading with Dad to get out now, before it's too late. Then they learn of yet another incident of multiple murder that the modern-day creeps tried to recreate. Mom and daughter nearly get killed themselves. They learn that the house is known locally as "Murder House." ONE of those incidents... maybe they'd stay. But all three? I don't believe in ghosts myself, but I think even I'd be out the door yesterday. But that's the classic "Why the hell do they stay in the house" thing; if they left, of course, there's no series. So I'll go along with it for now...

If people in horror movies acted normally, none of the movies would last longer than a Casper the Friendly Ghost short. ; ) Horror movies require that people try to figure out what's making that noise in the attic or in the cellar, usually in the middle of the night, preferably with a candle or a flashlight with weak batteries. That's just the way these things have to happen. They also must include friends/neighbors/family members/police who know that the horror victim has been under a lot of stress lately and is probably just imagining things as a result. And finally, everyone who buys a haunted house must declare boldly, early on, that "now we've got a chance at a fresh start... things will be better here!"
Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan >>ONE of those incidents... maybe they'd stay. But all three?<< In the next episode(s), they become a little more trapped, unable to leave even though they're trying to.

They ran a marathon a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to catch up and get into things. By the middle of the 2nd episode I just wasn't enjoying myself. I really like the actors, especially Connie Britton (big Friday Night Lights fan!). But the characters they play are just hard to warm up to.

Clearly the ghosts can make physical contact and kill people. It also seems that dying on the property makes a difference, as Constance told Larry to make sure the would-be homebuyer expired off the property. Good thing. He'd have been a voice with a very high voice and no one would have been able to stand that.
