And the worst part is, each time a crappy attraction like this comes along, it just lowers the expectations even more. You know how there wasn't much excitement for Toy Story Mania? Well, the American Idol travesty makes TSM look like a new Everest or HM or Pirates.

The bar just keeps getting set lower and lower. Disney's just truly not what it used to be. In terms of quality. In terms of entertainment. In terms of escapism.

While there are definately still many people who watch it, I don't think it's nearly as popular as it once was. That will certainly date the attraction and cause it to close fairly soon (I would be amazed if it lasts more than five years). Similar to the Survivor themed coaster that they did at a Paramount park about two years ago, it's just too late to get much from the branding on it. At least with the coaster it's easy enough to theme it to something else. Take the AI name off of this, and it's just Susan and Fred from Wisconsin standing on a stage doing karaoke.

Also, the tram tour preshow and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular both have audience participation. Sure, they don't really involve the entire audience, but I doubt this will either. It just seems like it will fall very flat very soon after opening. Do they really expect people to show up an hour before showtime to try-out to do karaoke? Sure, it might make their trip, but most people would rather take an extra ride on TOT or hop to another park later in the day so their time is really valuable. I think the point is to get people to stay in MGM longer, but I don't think people are going to stay just to wait in line to see eachother sing. If they really wanted to, they could burst into song in the queues for real attractions (which would make the whole WDW experience a lot more exciting, IMO).

Ought to ruin the atmosphere (or what's left of it with that BAH cluttering things up).

Best comment on this topic so far, and so so so so true... This lowering of expectations have been hapenning to me since Test Track came on line.

Oh well... *sighs* At least there will be more crying going on at WDW besides the one I see at the conclusion of Snow White's ride at the MK. I can wait to see the singing rejects crying after they are told they stink. Like the show itself.

But what really makes the show a success is Simon. And of course the walking freak show called Paula.

Without the actual judges, what's the point?

This sounds stupid. And 3 years too late.

One other note, if you look at the exterior concept art you will see it seems they have added a new entrance to the theater. The entrance they show now is in the front of the building (you formerly entered on the side). The interesting thing to note here is that the Academy of Arts and Sciences statuary area is currently in this location. I wonder if it will be removed completely or be relocated somewhere else in the park?

Why should those be the only choices?

    How about:

    c) something original

Whatever folks' opinion on this, American Idol is still the top rated show nearly every week that it is on the air. A clip show with no new content placed in the top ten last week.

Additionally, Disney's announcement of the American Idol attraction was picked up on nearly all of the national news outlets. There is just something about this franchise that generates interest. Disney didn't get the national press coverage on the opening of Expedition Everest that they got by just announcing the opening of an American Idol show at DHS.

This sort of show doesn't excite me a whole lot, but it also doesn't take much to see why they would pursue this sort of thing.

Reading the little news blurb at the begining of the thread this seems like a big time eater to me. First you have to audition, then if you get chosed you have hair and make-up, then perform and then if you're top in your "show" you come back for an evening performance. It sounds like that just ate up your whole day at the park.

While I MIGHT watch this once just for the train wreck factor, I'll probably avoid it at all costs after that.
