I also need to go back and see how much I disliked Haley when this season began, as right NOW I think either Haley or Lauren should win the whole shebang this year.

All I know for sure is this: I loved Lauren from the get-go when we saw her audition, and I now love Haley.

James didn't wow me like last week, but still a good solid performance.

My bottom two are Scotty and Jacob. I thought the first song with Scotty was pretty cheesy, but still think Jacob will be the one to go home. He has a great voice, but just doesn't seem to clearly know what to do with it.

But the reaction of the other two may mirror the audience/voters more; who knows?

I liked Scotty's first song (best song choice for him in weeks, I thought), but didn't at all like what he did with "Always on My Mind." Lauren and James were solid twice each and Jacob only once, so I do think he'll be going home. I still don't think there's a transcendent, breakout star in the bunch, though. They're all talented, but no one has that "X-factor" for me.

Jacob was all over the place with his first song - singing both parts of a duet. His take on Love Hurts was weird, but it's a song that requires a certain amount of hysterics anyway.

I actually liked Scotty's first song 'Gone'. I'd never heard it before but it was lively and fun. I did NOT like 'Always On My Mind' - a slow boring song that's worn out from overplay - and he didn't bring anything new to it.

James bobbled his first song - something from 30 seconds to Mars that just wasn't very tuneful. And he cried - again - on 'Without You' - a song I've always liked, but he made it much too maudlin. I was willing to overlook his last tearful display some weeks ago on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' but this was pushing it. I don't care for cheap sentiment. That said, he's far and away my favorite to win. Good luck James, and get a grip, will ya?

Lauren's hair was bigger than ever this week. I didn't know her first song but it was uptempo and lively. I wasn't as impressed with 'Unchained Melody' as the judges were. I thought it started out weak and just got worse as she went along. But she's probably bullet proof for elimination.

Worst - Jacob. Better than expected - Haley. Worse than expected but probably safe - James and Lauren. Best of show - Haley.

None of these contestants seem to be anything more than just pretty good. Whereas on performance night, it's possible to get caught up in the competitive aspect of the show, and enjoy watching the singers perform under pressure. The song and the performance matters in a way that songs and performances don't on results night.

Sure, I'm glad that Jacob finally got the ax. But it's too little too late. In another way, these results shows remind me that I really shouldn't care one way or the other.

At least til next week's performance show. Maybe it's late-season Idol burnout. Or maybe I should just swear off the results shows altogether.

    And as far as this:

NUH UH!!!!!!! DO NOT!!! (And, yes, it dawned on me as soon as I saw it was you posting, Trippy, that you were not talking about me! heh)

I liked Hailey's first song. I love the song and thought she did a good job. She is not Michael Jackson but come on Judges, I think we knew that. Why they ripped on her and not Scotty's croaking I just don't get it. But then I like what I like and don't hear the technical stuff.

I realize I sound idiotic at times :)

Scotty had a clever manuever last night - snubbing Gaga while kissing a crucifix. This kind of pandering may actually work to his benefit.

    He worries me.

Whereas I'm liking Haley more and more - not necessarily because of her singing, but because of the no-nonsense, take no guff attitude she's showing. The kind of pressure these folks are under, it would be easy and understandable if they were intimidated and cowed by the judges and producers. But not Haley.

I still want James to win, but he's been as much bombast and stage schtik as vocal chops lately. But the other three are all variations of country music, so he's the last man standing.

James was the overall best last night IMHO. I thought Lauren was consistantly good again.

I agreed with the judges to an extent and was not crazy about her first song, but did enjoy her second.

I can't believe that when they asked Randy about the first round, he said it was a 3 way tie. I thought that was uncalled for. I still thought Hailey did as well as Scotty although he did seem to pick a better song. It suited him and was not too challenging a song.

Please Scotty go home. :) I'm afraid it is going to be Hailey though.

But that's where I like Haley even more. She's (usually) gracious in those moments when she's being openly dissed.

Then there was the time a few weeks ago when Jimmy Iovine was knocking her in a videotape, and Haley said to Ryan "well F him!". Atta girl.

Oh yeah - last weekend I popped in my U2 Rattle & Hum DVD and was surprised to see that Jimmy I was credited as 'Musical Producer'. This was from 1987, so this guy's been at the top of his field for a surprisingly long time.

But he's not going anywhere. I predicted a couple of months ago that he'd win the whole thing, and I'm sticking to it. The only way he doesn't is if a). there are more tween girls jonesing for a "bad boy" (James) than a "good boy; or b). It comes down to Scotty and Lauren, and enough people decide it's high time a woman won Idol again (and/or non-country fans decide that as long as it's a country singer, it might as well be the one who has demonstrated she can do at least a little something other than country). Otherwise I don't see anyone else winning.

Obviously, I don't see Haley winning. In fact, I think she goes home tonight, despite having the best performance of the night (of course, it helps that "I, Who Have Nothing" is a drama-and-glorynote-filled song; it also worked wonders for Jordin Sparks). But she's been bottom-3 numerous times, doesn't seem to have the fan base, and got dissed on her first song, so I think she's toast.

She killed the mood with her song following James and like JLo said it's a competition and you have to be aware of what the others are singing and how you'll stack up.

James - I thought Don't Stop Believe' came off really cheesy. And I hated Love Potion #9. I think the judges are on autopilot with their praise for him.

Lauren - what did she sing? I can't remember. I just know that when she sang I'mmmmmmmm Evvvviillllll over and over again, I thought "yeah you are." Cause this is mighty painful.

It's going to be Scotty and James at the end. Not really caring who wins.

    Haley's going home tonight.
