I said it before, but I don't think the new judges picked any transcendent talent this year, even if they picked a generally higher level of voice for the overall top dozen.

And while I didn't miss Simon's smarminess, I DID miss his ability to keep it real. Too often this year, it was 3 "that was brilliant; you were wonderful" reviews, whether they were or not. You just know Simon would have gotten on Scotty for the mugging, or said "What... was... THAT?" a couple of times when Haley got weird in a bad way (and she got weird in good and bad ways) and just in general did a reality check for these kids; the judges this year too often seemed worried about damaging their self-esteem or something. Surely there's got to be a middle ground between nasty and pabulum.

At any rate, this is post #360; previous years had well over 1000. I think our little microcosm may be indicating that Idol just doesn't have the juice it once did, even if still popular.

I totally think Jack Black and Casey need to do a movie together like another School of Rock. I thought they were quite funny together although I have to say, when they sang together, it made me cringe a little.

IMHO Lady Gaga was a little too much for the time slot & audience.

Is there a rock band that needs a new lead singer? If so, they would be smart to grab onto James. I think he is really talented, but will really shine fronting a band.

I was not suprised by the winner, but a little disappointed as I just do not think they are all that great, especially based on the final song.

So are the top two a couple? They seem cute together and I heard Scotty say to Lauren last night "I love you baby". So was that just as a sister? mmmmm

There is one girl in the top 13 (13, right?) that I have no recollection of. The group singing was the usual mishmosh but I do get a kick out of the girls scurrying around the stage in those crazy high heels. How they don't break an ankle is beyond me.

I like Lady Gaga but agree that she was over the top for the time slot.

Now I get who Marc Anthony is. I knew his name and that he was married to Jennifer but I don't think I've ever heard him sing before. I wish Jennifer had sung and not just writhed around. She is a great dancer and eye candy but is so much more than that and wish they had showcased that since it is a singing show.

LOVE James Taylor.......we couldn't believe it when we heard the first few chords of "Dream On"...... He saved it for the end, just like the Idol judges suggest :)

I liked that they didn't drag out the final results. Also wonder about the Scotty & Lauren thing. A couple or BFF's ? :)

Thought the "most shocking" skit or whatever you call it was well done.

I enjoyed Jack Black (as always), and it was quite emotional. I should have put a bet on when Scotty auditioned as I turned to sarah and said, there's the winner all those months ago. Lol. I thought he was great hugging everyone during his last song, maybe he is genuine in there somewhere (keep reminding myself he is a kid).

I thought the piece with Aretha was terrific, and Steven Tyler is my rock god. Dream on was fantastic (though it sounded a little off without Joey and the rest of the boys backing him).

And although we are not huge Tom Jones fans (our Welsh experience meant burn out), you have to give him and Tony Bennet props for being able to sing.

BTW - I wanted to like Beyonce's track, but just couldn't. If Prince did it, would have been cool, but she just vocally masturbated all over it.

And hearing TLC again was fun.

Great show. and I think it was much better without Simon.

I dig country to some extent, but it is really just not my thing.
I fast-fowarded through most of the finale, only stopping to watch stuff like James with Judas Priest and the Casey with Jack Black stuff.

I dug the performances I watched, but was let down overall.

I'm hoping Idol is better next year.
