That really, really bothered me about that performace. Ok. I'm a nerd.

He has a good voice. I like him. Just a horrible, horrbile idea for that song.

Watching it back, he's singing "always start to cry" and Jennifer is bobbing her head to the beat... Doesn't make any sense...

    Sorry. Venting done.

Paul: He's got to go. That was horrible. Made Naima sound like a superstar.

Thia: Well, I said she was a Disney singer and sure enough she sang Disney. Blah. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

James: What is going on tonight? Not good.

And the judges have lost their minds by the way.

    Haley: Ugh!

Stefano: LOVED IT. LOVE Him! HOT! I love his voice. Love where he took the notes. Helps that this is one of my favorite Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes song.

Pia: She struggled. Well, now I know why she does ballads. Man I did not agree with the judges.

Scotty: He's just damn good. Country boy sAnging it. LOL

    Karen: <yawn> I got nothing.

Casey: This dude is FREAKIN' awesome! Maybe it was the intensity but I loved it.

Lauren: That's what I was expecting from her. Good job!

Jacob: Can you imagine this guy having sex? His lover must wear earplugs. Good golly he must break the windows in houses across the street! It's just too over the top for me.

Top Four: Casey, Stefano, Lauren & Scotty

After several performances after her Naima sounded better than about 4 or 5 of them. Hope people don't forget her because of the 1 slot.

Bottom Three: Paul, Karen and Haley

    Most boring: Thia

We saw this tonight with Pia, Haley and Lauren. And Naima was bad at both ends, made worse by being the first outta the chutes. And did it seem like Haley was being reprimanded by the producer? The whole business about how not only is the public watching, but the Idol producers are watching too, and how she needs to "do the work". Like they think she's slacking.

Pia pulled it together eventually, but I don't think Lauren did all that well. Right now, she's a favorite to win the whole shebang, and I don't see it. But then I don't care for country.

Both Thia and Karen were marginally better tonight than usual, but not good enough to make a difference.

As for the men, I can give Paul props for being unique, but that cuts both ways. Too quirky for me. He could do voices for cartoon characters. It's a living.

James seems to belong in front of a band, not holding down the entire stage on his own. I like him generally, but didn't connect with his song or his performance tonight.

Scotty is lucky that there's such a thing as country music. He's just lucky enough to be born with that set of pipes - perfect for that twangy country sound. Did I mention I don't like country?

Casey plays without a net - he just gets out there and does what he does, and it's always fun, but it's not necessarily good. 'Teen Spirit' just doesn't lend itself to such an antiseptic environment like that stage. They called it grunge and they were right. It doesn't work as well in polite company.

Jacob is taking advantage of this weird show format - he only has to sing for about two minutes and he's done. So every week he comes out, turns it up to eleven and stays there for the duration of the song. Kinda unhinged and undisciplined. You can't do that for ninety minutes, but fortunately he doesn't have to. I still don't see him going very far into the season.

With Stephano, I've "wanted" to like him more than I actually do for over a month now. Tonight was his best night so far - he killed it on a difficult song and sounded great. I still think he's forcing the emotion and "faking it" a bit too much, but with dead-on vocals I'll forgive a lot.

Top 3 - Stephano, Pia, Scotty.

Bottom 3 - Karen, Naima, Thia.

I've wanted Karen to get the boot for the last three weeks now. Just because she did a bit better tonight doesn't change that. Bounce her tomorrow night.

And, yeah, I think Casey was a bit over the top with his Nirvana, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

And, no offense to Jacob, and I hate to say this, but he DOES need to dial it down a bit.

For me, bottom three last night were Naima (which annoys me, as I adore her!), Thia, and Haley. I discovered last night that I didn't even like Haley with my eyes closed this week.

Also, was it just me, or did it seem like the dude from the record company was dissing just about every contestant in his chat with them?

I admit that I don't have a great ear for music. I don't really understand "pitchy" or any technical wording, but I do know what I like so here goes :)

Naima: I love her but she just sounded off through the whole song. I was waiting for her to pull it together but she didn't.

Paul: If I close my eyes I like him. I can watch him for about half the song and that's enough for me.

Thia: I woke up with that song in my head this morning :) She is a very good singer but I think Broadway is the way to go for her. Which is not a bad
    thing.

    James: What gadzuux said :)

Stefano: yep he is a contender

Pia: Can't get the girl from Glee out of my head when I see Pia. I guess I also can't get Broadway out of my head today.

Scotty: gag...sorry I just don't care for this type of country, never have and likely never will. He has an amazing voice, I understand that but gag.

Karen: is she the red lipstick girl? She was OK but won't last in this group.

Casey: love him but sounded too growly last night. SLTS was played over and over in our van when our kids were young so maybe the original is just too ingrained in my musical memory. I didn't want him to do a karaoke just tone down the growl.

Lauren: She sounded really good to me. About the level of country that I can stand. She was sick? wow.

Jacob: I have to close my eyes half way through. Too intense for me to watch.

    This group is just amazing.

Steven is getting on my nerves.

    <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Iovine" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J...y_Iovine</a>

Born in Brooklyn, Iovine began his career as a recording engineer in the mid-1970s, working with The Raspberries, John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen. He went on to produce albums for U2 (Rattle & Hum), Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Stevie Nicks, Simple Minds, Dire Straits, Flame (featuring Marge Raymond, Jimmy Crespo, Bob Leone, and others), and Patti Smith. Iovine established Interscope Records in 1991 with the release of Gerardo's Mo' Ritmo. It went on to become Interscope-Geffen-A&M following Universal's acquisition of PolyGram when Iovine was named co-chairman; in 2001, he became chairman.

He is credited with having given Eminem's demo tape to Dr. Dre, who signed him to his Aftermath label. In 2002, Iovine co-produced the hit Eminem movie 8 Mile and in 2004, he and Paul Rosenberg signed a first-look feature deal with Paramount Pictures and MTV Films for their Interscope/Shady/Aftermath banner. Iovine co-produced the first film under the deal, Get Rich or Die Tryin', starring 50 Cent. In 2003, he was co-executive producer of Enrique Iglesias's album Seven. In January 2008, Iovine, Dr. Dre and Monster Cable released "Beats by Dr. Dre" high-performance headphones. Iovine is also an executive producer with LeBron James and Maverick Carter of the documentary More Than A Game, which was released in the fall of 2009.

Lady Gaga has thanked him several times during her acceptance speeches, as he was the one to sign her to Streamline/Interscope shortly after her 2007 performance at Lollapalooza. Eminem also has mentioned him several times during his acceptance speeches.

Wow, I thought he was helpful not Simon like at all. He's their mentor for the season, he's suppose to provide them constructive criticism. LOL

Steven praised Naima to the high heavens when it was her worst outting yet. He's taking over the 'Paula' spot where he blows sunshine and kisses no matter what the singer has done.

On the other hand, whereas Jennifer had problems being 'negative' in the earlier shows, she's now stepping up and offering useful comments that are specifically tailored to what just happened.

And - I'm sensing that the producers have it out for Haley - maybe for something we don't know anything about. Between the ominous comments from Iovine to her about her work ethic, and the judges being surprisingly harsh (Randy saying she doesn't know who she is vocally), it's like they're steering the viewers to see her as a second tier contestant.

    Hang tough, Haley.

I probably don't make sense but that's not unusual ;)

    Agree about Jennifer!

Anyway, catching up over here. Here's my view so far. Overall, I want to know what happened to the talen that auditioned.

Naima: So disappointing again. She was so great in audition, what is going on. I really want to see her A game, it is in there somewhere.

Paul: Again he showed promise in the auditions, but this was aweful

Thia: I thought she was dull in the auditions. But I liked her tonight.

James: I had such high hopes when I heard the number he was going to perform. Fun, but not great. James has it in him, I just want to see him (as well as the promised Steven Tyler duet).

Hayley was just not good at all....hmmmmm, could she be the one to go?
