I can totally see the boys ganging up on an unsuspecting newbie who was only trying to contribute something that they thought was good information. They both have their own sources of info, and if you counter what they know you'd better get ready for a shellacking. I don't at all agree with that kind of rude behavior that they would say is simply being direct. But I've learned to live with it and still call them friends. I don't expect everyone to post in the same style as I do, and have learned to adjust for this more "direct" approach. But to say that I have any other motive for wanting them back other than just wanting to keep in touch with my friends is sheer babble. I don't need anyone anywhere to make me look good - I look DANGED good all on my own! So while I appreciate the troubles you had early on with the boys, please don't try to accuse anyone else here of having ulterior motives - you just look foolish.

Just the fact that his screen name was THE Spirit of 76 rather than Spirit of 76 shows a certain amount of self-regard. Starting a thread and declaring that it would go 1,000 posts also shows he certainly had no problems with self-worth. But so what? Frankly, I've discovered over my lifetime that more often than not, people with big egos DESERVE to have big egos. They tend to be very successful people who are routinely told that they do a great job. Pretty soon they start believing it and it shows. That's OK. I'm not sure whether a healthy ego drives success, or if success drives a healthy ego. But either way I usually try to tolerate it because to a certain extent they've earned it. TDLFAN could certainly be brutal. As the target of some of his attacks I have first-hand experience. But he also was very informative and very pleasant (even to me) most of the time. TDLFAN isn't really a jerk. He just plays one on the Internet. I figured out fairly early on that he was just a big-old teddy bear with a shtick. He also was a great photographer, and anyone who says they've never seen his photos must not have been here very long. I wish they both would come back. Sure, they have unique personalities, but generally the most interesting posters do. I keep trying to decide whether jonvn is psychotic or a genius (or both). But either way he's another unique personality that is fun to read. I can guarantee you one thing. Neither The Spirit nor TDLFAN EVER said that someone should not post on LP because they didn’t like their style. It is a shame that there are a few here who would tell that to them.
