    This was certainly true originally. Athough the numbers on the bottom of a check were originally read magnetically, I'd be very surprised if this was still the case in practice. Optical technology has advanced a great deal since those standardized numbers were added to the bottom of checks.

    Alot of stores won't accept a card unless it can be swiped! So be carefull about that.
