Most if not all cluster buildings/and mall types not only charge rent but also a portion of the sales. Companies are also somewhat limited in what they are allowed to do/not do. In-n-Out's choice is to be in stand alone buildings with drive thru areas. And if you look at the new In-n-Outs that have opened in the last year-they are building exactly that. I have had 3 children work for InO-2 still do-one a manager.

What I meant was that Emporium was San Francisco based department store chain. Macy's is New York based. Both carried similar merchandise. Thus, referring to The Emporium as the Bay Area's version of Macy's seemed a fitting way to describe the store.

While The Grove has a great vibe, and the center hub area with the fountain are lovely, the whole thing leaves me cold. The retail options are extremely limited, and I always find myself more drawn to more gritty Farmers Market area than the rest of the place. Sure, it's pretty to look at, but like so much of LA there just isn't much substance. I reckon that AGW is going to be more of the same.

I was just talking to my girlfriend about how these over-priced (for what you get) "fancy" places seem to be taking over. Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Applebees, Chili's, Mimi's, Rainforest Cafe, etc... they are all about the same..... You pay for an "interesting" atmosphere, over priced and under portioned meals that often leave your tastebuds wanting more. These restaurants are slowly becoming the Denny's and CoCo's of the next generation. Sorry for my little rant, but I couldn't agree more with most of you.

On the north side called the Penney something or other. Ahhhh .. the childhood memories. Van De Kamps with the big windmill was cool.
