    If it was only that long, I don't think I would dislike the HMH overlay at DL as much as I do, but the original is down far longer that that. In order to get it open for the beginning of Halloweentime in early/mid-September (since they need something of substance to promote for the season), they shut down the original in late August or early September. Then it usually runs through the first week in January (the Jan 2 closing date is unusually early this year), and then there's typically a 2-4 week refurb to take the decorations down and maybe add some other things throughout (in the past, they've used this time to redo the foyer flooring, add the new bride, and upgrade lighting). Depending on when dates line up that year, and whether it will be a big refurb or not, that could be over 5 months without the original attraction. While the overlay is kind of fun, it isn't better than the original, and it gets really old by the end of its run. Because of the overlay, I do think I appreciate the original more, since I hardly ever get to see it.

    One of the added 'benefits' of the overlay that is seldom mentioned is how the sound levels in the attraction are never right. It seems like it can take a couple months to adjust the audio in each doombuggy so that it's not deafeningly loud or too quiet to hear. By the time they finally get around to that, it's practically overlay time again, and it all gets messed up again (and the sound levels for the overlay are even worse).

    If you can't tell, I'm a really big fan of the overlay... : |

    More reason to keep that crap farrrr away from WDW. It's not worth it. LOL

    I think I would be ill if I ever went on Mansion while it had the overlay. Heck, just the pictures of Mansion with all the Jack crap on the magnificent facade makes me queasy.

    I have strong reason to believe this will largely be three-pronged in focus:

    1.) the new PR campaign that involves putting turkey-leg chomping, ECV- driving, lanyard-dangling, Goofy hat-wearing bumpkins on the Castle and the focus for 2011, which you may have heard is WDW's 40th Anniversary (not sure Burbank realizes it);
    2.) more 'details' regarding the Fantasyland project such as it is (or will be until they change their minds again); and
    3.) DCL's expansion.

    I doubt at this point they'll even announce the newest DVC, although it certainly is possible and ... that's all.

    I doubt it too, but as for being the right resort ... I don't buy that argument at all. TDO loves it because it allows them to save the money.

    But if WDW can't have seasonal overlays then clearly it can't have any of the hard-ticket parties, any holiday decorations, any seasonal parades or pyro or even events like Nightastic or Flower and Garden Fest because they alter the parks fundamentally for the 'one in a lifers' (who are greatly exaggerated in reality and also fairly clueless about what things are 'supposed' to be like to begin with!)

    It's a matter of taste. I love the original Mansion. My favorite all-time attraction. But I also love the holiday overlay. And I've never seen anyone in Anaheim complaining about having it ruined their magical DL vacation.

    TDL does three overlays and they also seem quite popular.

    WDW doesn't do them because it is cheaper to not do so. And whether you like them or not, I'd think as a fan that mindset isn't one anyone here would wish to encourage.

    I hate arguing points that will never happen (like what would happen if everyone in the USA had equal access to quality healthcare) ... but as someone who has lived in the LA area and seen Mansion in its Holiday form since it began in 2001, I think most folks wouldn't agree with your assessment that it ruins anything let alone for five months.

    My opinion (and management on that coast and in Tokyo agrees) that it takes one E-Ticket and turns it into two E-Tickets for a cost that you couldn't add a carnival ride for.

    Some may not like NBC (just like some may hate everything from Pooh to Pirates to ToT to Impressions de France etc) because it isn't their taste. That's cool.

    But there's no denying that overlays are a huge success in every resort in which they are done. And they are done in every resort except one.

    Of course then they would have it all to themselves, as no one would attend. Perhaps that is what they want anyway.
