I'm just saying I don't know what I would have done, so I can't say I wouldn't. See, if my kids weren't panicking, then obviously they were okay. My kids are fine in enclosed spaces, thank God, cause even at my older daughter's age I was very claustrophobic.

Panic attacks to not make you put your children in harms way- they simply cause you to prioritize differently than you would normally. But trying to explain a panic attack to someone who has never suffered from one is like trying to explain a sixth sense to "normal" people with only five; nearly impossible.

I also thought it sounded like the pregnant woman was having a panic attack when I first read the OP. I know her behavior must have been really puzzling and annoying to everyone on board the boat and I'm very sympathetic to that. But I think having panic disorder myself makes me a little less judemental and more long-suffering of people and their "neediness". One can be a low-key, low-maintenence "mom/dad-of-the-year" type and if they're having a panic attack all bets are off due to the survival instinct which overrides everything in their "parallel universe" at the moment.

    Just my $.02 :)
