Darkbeer makes posts like this all the time and no one takes him to the woodshed about it. He sometimes is criticized for just posting links without commenting on them, but no one jumps his case. Why? Because even though you know most Darkbeer posts will criticize either Democrats or DCA, he does it in a way that does not insult other LP'ers. That is the difference between Beau and Darkbeer. Although some would like to claim otherwise, people did not jump all over Beau because of his political views, but because he presented them in a way that was nasty and personally insulting to other LP'ers.

Thing is, I get admined for it because it's considered a personal attack or I've made it about the poster. Calling him petulant by continuing to do these things isn't an attack, it's calling it like it is in my book. He's protected around here, and no amount of denying will convince people otherwise.

Originally Posted By TALL Disney Guy <the idiotic link only and then post it all anyway posts.> I prefer those instead of just the links. It's a pet peeve of mine when *only* a link is posted. Who needs the hassle of having to click on the link yourself, wait for the window to display the new site, and then maximize it so you can read it? I like the "fast food posts" better where BAM it's all there. Pathetic, yeah, but that's part of online life. lol

No non-citizen can vote. That means undocumented immigrants, those here on visas AND "permanent resident aliens" (those with green cards). An immigrant who becomes a naturalized citizen CAN vote.

What you say above is exactly what I've found. Specifically, it seems that the more someone has (allowed their radio to have) gotten themselves worked up about immigration, and the more strident their viewpoint, the less they seem to actually know about the matter. It's really quite astounding at how strong the correlation is. My favorite example is a conversation I had with the most extreme anti-immigration person in the office. I had mentioned something about how some people wanted to differentiate naturalized citizens from other citizens, and his response was "What do you mean by 'naturalized'?" Yet he considers himself MORE informed than most on the issue because he listens to O'Reilly, Savage, and whoever the local AM guy is constantly. Simply astounding.

The district was, after all, Bob Dornan's "safe" seat until he was defeated by Loretta Sanchez in a bitterly contested election. There are still a lot of staunch partisans down there who have never gotten over it. They loathe immigrants of any kind. Van Tran was targeted in his State Assembly race by some fellow Republicans. They put up a former Democrat, then issued a series of blatantly racist mailers in an effort to get their man elected. They even filed a specious complaint, then trumpeted that Tran was "under investigation." Tran prevailed, though. The GOP in Orange County has got to realize, and embrace, the fact that the county has changed. Latinos and Viet Namese will stay away in droves as long as these kind of shenanigans continue. I wouldn't be surprised if the Nguyen staffer who sent this letter isn't part and parcel with this self destructive crowd. Just speculating, as I said...

It's quite probable that they got Zschau defeated in that close race and as a result Senator Cranston got re-elected. I'm still disappointed over that one.

Greetings, You are being sent this letter because you were recently registered to vote. If you are a citizen of the United States, we ask that you participate in the democratic process of voting. You are advised that if your residence in this country is illegal or you are an immigrant, voting in a federal election is a crime that could result in jail time, and you will be deported for voting without having the right to do so. At the same time, you are advised that the U.S. government is installing a new computer system to verify the names of all new registered voters that vote in the October and November elections. Anti-immigration organizations can ask for information from this new computer system. Unlike Mexico, there is no incentive to vote here. There is not a voter-registration card in the United States. Therefore, it is useless and dangerous to vote in any election if you are not a U.S. citizen. Do not listen to any politician that tells you the opposite. They are only looking out for their own interests. They only want to win elections without regard to what happens to you. Sincerely, Sergio Ramirez<<

How? Because there are hundreds of thousands of immigrants who do have the right to vote. They are called Naturalized Citizens. >>At the same time, you are advised that the U.S. government is installing a new computer system to verify the names of all new registered voters that vote in the October and November elections.<< Is this even TRUE? >>Anti-immigration organizations can ask for information from this new computer system.<< This is a straight up THREAT.

Until a year ago, he was a Democrat. In fact, Nguyen was a Democratic candidate in 2004 against Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. I say that Nguyen's letter was either the stupidest or the most nefarious political act this year because part of me wonders whether he's some sort of "Manchurian Candidate" planted by Democrats to pull this October stunt - and have it dragged out by the media going into the election. (Of couse, that's Cold War thinking - Vietnam, where Nguyen was born isn't the same as China for all kinds of reasons.) That would take a lot of plotting and planning and coordination that, normally, I wouldn't give Democrats credit to be able to do. But since they withheld information about Mark Foley for months - if not years - to make his predatory sexual behavior a campaign issue, I wouldn't put anything past them. <<
