I'm with you ecdc. This is exactly how I feel about the whole uproar.

Folks, we really do have far more important things to worry about in Washington. As usual the news media is far more distracted by a this sexless Washington sex scandal than the average American seems to be.

I have a friend who's locally seen as a bit of a celebrity. He's in his early 50s, certainly not offensive looking but nothing special, etc. I routinely watch in awe as women half his age (or more!) throw themselves at him. They know he's married, and they just do it anyway. We're talking models here (his line of work keeps him around young, attractive women).

I don't get it, but all it takes is one bad day and one moment's bad judgment.

I'm sure it happens, but those kinds of stories aren't suitable for the debating profile that the talking heads love on cable news. Nor is it salacious enough for mudslinging slimeballs like Breitbart. Why would he care about something like that?

Now, if he's sending stuff like this unsolicited, and it's not reciprocated, then I have a problem with it. Harassment is a different ball game. But we really want to start calling people "pigs" for consensual sexting?

He was unquestionably an idiot, but the disgust and willingness to condemn are outside of my understanding.

I've dated both liberal and conservative girls, let's just say the conservative girl ain't afraid to let the freak flag fly a little.

And that was DDMAN26's offensive comment of the day.

    Of course.

But how idiotic does a politician have to be to do such a thing ONLINE in this day and age!?

The reason it upsets me so much is because I DID think he was a good guy with some real courage in terms of speaking out.

He totally blew it, and let everyone down, AND gave more ammo to the right wing to boot.

    Ugh.

Totally agree. And on top of that, of all the bloody people to expose him. Breitbart? The new Lee Atwater?

This guy is truly the lowest of the low, a man for whom shame and decency do not exist. For Weiner to be busted by him just makes it all the worse.

    I find that surprising.

Admittedly, I had never even heard of this guy until this episode. No pun intended, but apparently he was up and comer. Whether he was or not, what gets me about this is the complete lack of foresight, judgment and common sense on display here. If one is a Congressman, I expect them to comport themselves knowing they're going to be held to a higher standard. I realize since 1776 D.C. has been inhabited by sleazeballs of all shapes and sizes, by why do we continually have to be reminded of this?

I might have mentioned this a time or two before, but ever since my early investigator days up through what I do now, I have operated under one basic credo- tell the truth, it's the only story you have to remember. As painful as it can be sometimes, telling the truth is the only way to go. If you can't trust someone's word, then what does a person have left? And while if Weiner feels the need to disrespect his marriage by such juvenile behavior, if proof of that gets out, he g-damn better tell the truth about it if he wants to salvage anything that might be left of his self respect and public image. But no, like those before him, he lied and predictably, spectacularly failed at doing so. He's not the just the village idiot, he's a global idiot. When in the world did lying about it ever seem like a good idea?? If he isn't smart enough to not send these pictures in the first place, I expect him to at least have the presence of mind to realize that once he's literally caught with his pants down, he needs to stop with the aberrant behavior and own up to it.

But he didn't until it was too late. He insulted all of us, thinking we'd buy into the lies, as if we are as stupid as he is, and that's where he finally loses me, and where he should lose everyone else as well. I'm tired of employing a slippery slope when judging politicians. His type should not be wanted or accepted, because if we don't insist on it we'll never know where to draw the line. No more compromises, we're better than that. He needs to be gone.
