Of course, he had to be an idiot to believe that, too.

Originally Posted By Mr X ***You wrote "some"*** Yes, some. Perhaps even lots. If you're talking Presidential ambitions, that's a different story and I would probably agree with you, but out of the thousands of politicians out there, plenty are decent people who want to give something back to their home districts by becoming involved in the political process. And to insinuate that nobody should marry any of them because they might be power hungry and thus liable to cheat on their spouse is ludicrous. ***Now who has riduculous things to say???*** Wait, let me check... Nope, still you. ***Outside of the extremely rare selfless state or US public figure ALL concern themselves with power*** Talk about a broad brush. Would you say the same about cops? Even *I* wouldn't go that far, and as everyone knows I'm not a big fan of cops (corrupt ones anyway, along the ones who use their minor positions of power they have over people to bully and harass). Even as far as that goes, I'm well aware there are some good cops. I might even go so far as to say PLENTY of good cops. And plenty of good and decent politicians, too.

Originally Posted By Mr X Why is that any better? Again you use a term like "reap", like she deserved this humiliation. Well, I disagree. It's unfortunate that she apparently married a real pig but love is blind. And do you really think she knew about this crap before becoming pregnant? If not, how do you figure she's "reaping an embarrassing pregnancy and birth"? Bluntly, you sound quite misogynistic on this one.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***///Would you say the same about cops?/// not quite.....but close*** Okay, so no polititian nor cop deserves to be loved or get married. And those who marry them are fools who deserve humiliation and embarrassment. Got it. Any other common career choice you'd like to add? As I wrote, if you're looking for people who might or might not be looking for power in their career choices (some do, most don't), add docs, lawyers, judges, teachers, public servants, mechanics, pilots, movie stars, movie producers, movie directors, television stars, television executives, oil executives, tech executives, executive chefs, bankers, credit investigators, underwriters, sales folk of all stripes, prison guards, crossing guards, lifeguards, and several sadistic babysitters I encountered in my youth.

Close to all(approaching 100%) elected and appointed figures concern themselves with power and Mrs. Weiner damn well knew it or should have known it. I have no sympathy for her if she feels embarrassed over this. She made her bed.

And even beyond that, the fact that someone falls in love with and marries a powerful person hardly guarantees that person will be unfaithful, either (so your insinuation that she somehow deserves it is actually TWO degrees off the mark). I don't know the woman, I'd never even heard of her til around 3 days ago, but I don't get why you or anyone else (unless there's some news out there about her, specifically, that I haven't read about) would feel the need to look upon her unkindly for the loathsome actions of her spouse, nevermind insinuate that in some way that she deserves it, should have known better, or anything of that sort.
Originally Posted By barboy2 ///Okay, so no polititian nor cop deserves to be loved or get married./// I didn't say nor mean that. Get all the love and spouses one wants but know that when hooking up with a cop, dentist, teacher, psychiatrist(to name a few) that those paths carry a great deal of stress and/or depression. If you marry a cop don't be shocked that you just became one with another who looks for power. One should expect that. Lady Weiner must know that once she goes for a HR member that, for the most part, her life will be public, be it the glory or the gory. She chose a more public life. If this were a 1750's arranged wedding whereby her pop sold/traded her for indigo, then I'd feel for her.

Originally Posted By Inspector 57 <<OK, but what number of brain cells have to be missing, when you are in the public eye and do this stupid crap anyway.>> I used to marvel at this, too. Why would Bill Clinton, Tiger Woods, George Michael, Charlie Sheen, and countless wealthy televangelists go and do what they did when they stood to lose SO much from doing it? And then I realized that: A) It's all relative. The politician who was caught playing footsie with an undercover cop in an airport restroom ended up losing his job (BIG money!), his pride, and maybe his family as a result of his behavior. HOW COULD HE HAVE LET THAT HAPPEN?! But... If Joe Sixpack, a bus driver who lives with his wife and kid in a trailer park goes out and gets hisself a DUI, he loses his job (not big bucks, but at least steady income with benefits) and his pride. His lady kicks him outta the house and he ends up couch-surfing while he looks for a lesser job. HOW COULD HE HAVE LET THAT HAPPEN?! Both guys lost the exact same amount: EVERYthing. B) As much money as one may have, it isn't enough to buy one's way out of having the "human condition." People are people. (And, in cases cited above, guys are guys.) People, in general, are needy. People want to own more than what they already have. People are biologically programmed to want sex and to be reassured that they're sexually attractive. History shows again and again that these drives are stronger than the "ego" in a large percentage of the population at any given time -- no matter what those individuals' standing in society. Movie star with millions to lose, or unemployed trucker, biologic urges prevail. Same DNA... Same DNA... Same DNA. Baby, you were born this way. 3) We tend to have an expectation that other people will always behave rationally. ("But why would he DO that? He's famous!") The expectation that people will generally behave rationally is irrational.

And it's going to get worse now, maybe, since Mrs. Weiner is pregnant according to something I heard on the radio earlier this morning.

Originally Posted By Mr X ***If anything that's worse than what you said the first time. Talk about blaming the victim*** Yeah. I often agree with posters, and I just as often disagree. But it's not all that often I'm disappointed in what a poster has to say. This time, sadly, is one of those times. ***"Bluntly, you sound quite misogynistic on this one." That's really not anything new for barboy*** I wouldn't go that far, but I am horribly disappointed in the guy, to say the least. ***He seems to exist here on LP just to piss people off*** I don't think he really does. His style is incredibly confrontational, and often controversial. I think he means well, and says what he means without equivocation. In this case, I do think he is completely wrong. It's not MY place to say, but if it were up to me I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on this one...I don't think that in his heart he's misogynistic or anything of the sort. I think he's just speaking wrongheadedly here (at least I hope so!). He has always been one of the most strikingly shocking posters on LP, and generally speaking he has a message behind his shocking posts that more often than not reveal keen insights onto the issues at hand. In this case, though, I think he's just being an idiot. I hope he can prove me wrong!
