I mean you are in line for 20 minutes, butsept for the crazy mothers who wake their kids up at 3 a.m to go black friday shopping most people are alone. I mean my husband was home with my kids. So its nice getting to know people that you would never normally talk too.

DD was TICKED at Macys when her coupon didn't work on a pair of shoes she wanted. Didn't "go off" on the salesperson but vowed to never go to a "sale" at Macy's again. Otherwise Old Navy was AWESOME! Good sales, pleasant smiling people working and organized lines. Hit Cost Plus for some browsing and stopped at Starbucks for a holiday coffee. Ended the day at a wedding store where DIL to be found a wedding dress! Very random, unrushed day with lots of happy shoppers.

I hit Michaels yesterday around 3pm and had no problem getting the Christmas merchandise I wanted... plus a small item for hubby with a 50% off coupon. I was happy.

Tonight, after Lowe's, we'll go over to Cost Plus and Tuesday Morning to look around. I think I'll end the evening with a frozen yogurt from Golden Spoon.

We've got the relaxed approach to holiday shopping this year and I'm enjoying every moment of it.

For the big boys (WalMart and Target) its just icing on the cake. But others definitely count on us spending money we don't even have (charge it!).

You have to hand it to the merchants, they redefined not only Christmas but when its celebrated.

Not too many generations ago Americans waited until Christmas Eve to put up the tree, and the "Christmas Season" followed Christmas Day. (The 12 days of Christmas are AFTER Christmas Day, not before)

Now we set up decorations for a religious holiday a whole month before said holiday. Why? Because the merchants have trained us to do that. (Incidentally that time period as been known as Advent, and not Christmas for millenia)

    Something worth thinking about, IMHO.

I think that there is a lack of a "must have" thing like the Wii used to be.

I stayed home, and will be doing my modest shopping online this year.
