The bigger question is: why can't ducklings learn to just live and let live, regardless of one's view point. Even the Good Lord, Himself, doesn't force a duckling to live a certain way. He sets up guidelines to be followed and then allows each one of us to make our own choices. Why should ducklings be any less fair with each other? We should all stop trying to CONTROL the behavior of our fellow webbed footed friends and just try to LOVE one another. Isn't THAT the MOST important lesson to be learned here? I realize it isn't always easy to love, of course. But, then, love is a principal and NOT a mere feeling. You can still learn to love another without having to like everything about them.

It seems to really be the thing now to focus on all the differences in people and special interest groups. Personally I am getting tired of it. I know this sounds like a way out idea but it would be nice to have human days and people could just accept each other the way they are and treat each other with respect and consideration, which would include not throwing your beliefs and values in other peoples faces.
Maybe we should sentence both sides to 100 rides on "It's A Small World" so they could absorb the underlying philosophy.

I don't see being Christian and allowting Gay Days to continue at Walt Disney World (or any other place for that matter), to be mutually exclusive.

Or is it one way or the other?

If you personally are uncomfortable visiting the parks during 'Gay Days', Disney is more than willing to honor your 1 day, 1 park passports at any of the 4 Walt Disney World theme parks. I worked during 'Gay Days' last year at the Magic Kingdom and did not find it uncomfortable or witness any inappropriate behavior. While the crowds are larger than normal in the morning, the park was nearly empty towards the evening. There were a few guests who were uncomfortable with 'Gay Day' participants, and we tried to accomodate these folks in an appropriate and sensitive manner. I hope everyone understands that when you are a Guest at the Walt Disney World Resort it doesn't matter how old you are, what religion, nationality, ethnicity or sexual orientation you are, whether you have any disabilities, etc. We strive to create 'miles of smiles and magical memories' for everyone. Every person who enters our Magic Kingdom is a guest of honor, and we will treat them like one.

We also need to be careful about generalizations. Not all homosexuals are sex-crazed deviants. I know Gay people who are very nice, good people.

The term "Christian" is one who follows Christ. But we have a million different opinions on the "right" way to follow Christ's teachings.

Do you suppose that someone will come and take video of the next LP meet to show at the share holders meeting as well? We organize meets outside of Disney sanctions. I think we could all be very entertaining, especially frog hunting and eating Krispy Kremes with the Witches.

No, seriously, I have such mixed emotions about this issue. As a Christian, I have real problems with the gay lifestyle in general. I don't understand why anyone should care or tell what their preference in bed is. I couldn't care less about anyone knowing or not knowing my preference. But, as a member of the Womens Chorus of Dallas which is 80% lesbian and is the sister group of the Turtle Creek Chorale which is 99% gay, I have some of the best friends who are always having to explain their choices. They are loving, compassionate, inclusive human beings who are in truly commited relationships with their partners. And I have trouble condeming that. Then again, as a mother who had to explain to my 5 year old son why the two men were kissing at Six Flags Over Texas on Gay Day there, it is a hard call to make.

Anyway, I don't think that it is appropriate to show video at the shareholders meeting. What do they hope to accomplish with a tape that was edited to show only the most blatant and unusual public displays of affection. Anyone can make any tape look bad for their own purposes.

I agree with everything that you have said clatertrap, and I think that the gay community should be commended for having the integrity to lead their lives openly in such a judgemental society. It would be easy to demand legislation to make being gay declared illegal or at the very least, legally immoral. I think the true test of Christians is to present us with a diverse world, and to have God Himself judge our reactions to it, in accordance with His laws.

God Bless ya, clatertrap. Just as not all gays are stereotypical, please understand that not all Christians are either. :)

Hey, that's a coincidence, I know a few Christians who are very nice, good people too! (but, now that I think about it, I think they might be Gay)

So many of you have made comments on this subject that I'd like to address here, but frankly I don't feel like going back through 3 pages of posts to pull out quotes, so this might end up rambling a bit...
As far as Disney banning Gays from their parks - not likely. Gays, like all you other folks, LOVE to go to theme parks. We spend mucho-$$$$$$ there every year. They're NOT going to cut into their profit margin by attempting to exclude so many potential customers. Not to mention just how many EMPLOYEES that would eliminate. (do you honestly believe they provide same-sex benefits because they DON'T employ alot of gays??)
As far as "trying to shove their beliefs down my throat" - you're right, it's done on both sides, but do you realize that every time you walk down the street holding hands with an opposite-sex partner, that's exactly what you're doing to me? Heterosexuals need to realize (and I'm not holdin' my breath here) that the only "choice" about homosexuality is whether or not to knuckle under to the opressive discrimination of some heterosexual totalitarians, or to (as Shakespeare put it) "thine own self be true".
Look, there are always going to be people who act, shall we say, "exteme". Gays do NOT have a monopoly on this. For every nellie queen or butch lesbian there's a "gangsta playa" or black-garbed Goth. The truth is, most of us are somewhat more "normal acting" than your average 'Wil & Grace' character. (well...ALOT of us are, anyway)

    >>Isn't part of being a Christian being open to other people, other lifestyles, other thoughts?<<

    Jesus seemed to think so.

Overall, I'm thrilled with the tone of the posts here.
Orddu - big hugs to you and your sisters.

You can love someone and accept them and NOT accept there actions.

    >>Isn't part of being a Christian being open to other people, other lifestyles, other thoughts?<<

Not really..i'ts more of being loving to other people, no matter what their lifestyle. A true Christian doesn't think, "Hey, maybe Buddhism is right." but a true christian will love anyone who belives in buddhism. you just don't have to agree.

Way too many generalizations have been made on both sides here.

When people attack Christianity for the horrendeous things done in this world, I don't like it. That would be like ME blaming Sept. 11 on Islam.

Can't we all just get along?

But then they should also show a videotape of the straight people probalbly doing those same things on that very same day. Why is one better than the other. According to the article that is pretty much all they saw the gay people doing. They were not doing anything lewd or disrespectful at the park. They were simply showing affection to one another. Why is there gay days? Because the gays are showing they are proud of who they are. Hiding one's lifestyle is not always easy (trust me)Often one has to hide you they are at work, within family, at church, ect, I think if gays want to go to Disney in a group, to unite, to say hey were gay and we are not going to hide it and if they act in a reasonable matter, then there should be no problem. Yes they wear red shirts to identify themselves, big deal. I think they are showing others they are not alone. Sometimes being gay does feel lonely. if your uncomfortable then gay days are usually announced, don't go to the park that day. However even if you do all that will happen is you will see a large number of gay and lesbians noticable. There are hundreds of gays and lesbians in the park daily. Yes they will hold hands, but I doubt you will truly see anything obscene (unless your going by this Christian group defintion)If holding hands is obscene, then my goodness I am seen more acts of vulgarness at Disneyland!
