I think if I had a kid and they begged me to because "all my friends have one!" it'd only make me firmer in not giving 'em one, but I dunno...I don't have a kid. And probably not very firm, lol.

Another question I wonder, are the parents who give their kids cell's, the same ones who give iPods? Is there a corelation between the two? Are these the parents that kid's come to school with a laptop, macbook pro, Palm or PocketPC, iPod, Discman with radio, external speakers, Nintendo DS, GBA, PS Portable, flash drives, digital cameras, etc?

Although it seems more parents today are open to getting kids cell phones (safety, etc.) than, say, past parents were on getting kids rock and roll records ("the Devil's music", etc., Lol)

Anyhoo, I think the answer to the question of whether a kid gets a phone or not and at what age is the same as almost any other parenting quesion: It depends.

Both my kids (11 and 15) have cell phones. We are on a "family talk" plan with Cingular. We added the kids for $9.95 each. They are not allowed to text message, IM or e-mail with the phone. Neither has a camera phone....only the inexpensive one you get with the program.

Every month I scrutinize the phone bill to see where and when they are calling. We have plenty of minutes so we end up with lots of carryover minutes.

Giving the kids cell phones works for us.

I for one, prefer my cell phone to be new when I buy it, preferably no more than a month old.
