Well knowing my sster and after seeing the movie, I know that it was a good thing NOT to take her because of all the 'frightening moments.' I dont thnk it was all the gory, but man, even some parts made my jaw drop. Plus its longer than I thought it was! No way would she sit through all of that, especially when ts not a cartoon )she did great at Cars)

The worse of it was the lady behind me who had a very loud very long very annoying laugh. It was A LOT better than when I saw Cars! Lots of small children in that one though, of course. However some people feel that its ok to let their kids talk as they will during a movie.

I previewed Dead Man's Chest with a friend at the midnight showing (had already bought tickets online for the family to see the movie Friday afternoon). After seeing it at midnight, I was concerned that it would scare my kiddos--so much so that we took two cars to the theatre so that if either or both became frightened and wanted to leave, Mr. Glitter could still see the rest of the movie while I took the kids home. Turns out my fears were for nothing. Although there were a few moments where the kids jumped or briefly covered their eyes, they loved Dead Man's Chest. So although it seemed creepy to me, my 8 and 11 year olds give it two thumbs up. And these are kids who have seen practically nothing in the way of action/suspense movies.

Yes it was scary. I pre-warned them of most of the "jumpy" scenes (I forgot about the Krakken screaming in Jack's face). I reminded the 5 year old that it is pretend and just a movie. The best part- NO NIGHTMARES!

I then read the comments made here (slashing pirates, crows, etc.) and asked my daughter why she wanted to see the movie so bad. She said she wanted to know the characters before we go on the ride this week. So I called Grandma, who has the dvd, and we'll be having a little screening tonight. I didn't want to risk freaking her out on the larger than life movie screen, or giving her nightmares since she's never seen a movie like this. She can watch the DVD when it comes out, but our choice is to keep her home this time.

Last night there was only one newborn and maybe a dozen or so 5yr old looking kids in the long queue at the AMC. None of them started fussing although it did look like one family left early on. ROCK ON YOU BRAVE little boys & girls! whoo hoo! (now if only the same can be said about the El Cap crowd when we go to see Pirates2 again) btw: not sure if it contributed to the enjoyment or not but I saw one little girl in line with her small stuffed bear..

Most of the violence in Dead Man's Chest is implied but it is a VERY dark film, and there are many images throughout that are just plain gross to look--even for an adult if you are squeamish. It is a fun movie but it definately pushes the PG-13 envelope to the limit in my opinion.

Our youngest is huge fan of POTC 1 and watches Nightmare before Christmas on a weekly basis and his fave ride at DL is the Haunted Mansion so I didn't think we would have a problem. I asked him after the movie if he was scared and he told me "It's only pretend mum"..and rolled his eyes at me LOL!!

Just be the judge of your kids. My kids are not afraid of much so I felt ok taking them but just because mine were not afraid, your might be based on their own personalities. Good luck and enjoy it. We went to a 4:00 showing so that if adults were worried about kids, they could go later. My kids love the movies and sit quietly but I can't say the same for some adults next to us and behind us that were text messaging each other the entire time. VERY ANNOYING. I would take my kids over them anytime!
