An experienced politician and orator knows how to speak extemporaneously, and typically does it very well. Brewer has no such evident skill and fails miserably when she's unprepared. The woman is all about corporations, especially those corporations who generously fund her election campaigns. She doesn't give a lick about the citizens of AZ or if AZ is a good national citizen for the country. It's all about misrepresenting the truth and cozying up to the for-profit prison industry and ginning up fear in her electorate to scare them into voting against their own best interest.

Right now, they're screaming that Obama and the Dems are worthless because they haven't solved this problem in the 20 months Obama has been in office. Well... they had six years to solve immigration. REPUBLICANS HAD SIX YEARS TO FIX IMMIGRATION. DONNY... WHY DIDN'T THEY FIX IT? You still believe Republicans can fix this problem now. You plan to vote for them because of that belief. But at the same time, you demonize the Dems for not being able to fix it in 20 months while also making excuses for the Republicans for their failure to fix immigration under Bush for six years. Don't you see how hypocritical that belief is? The Dems haven't done it in 20 months, so to heck with them. Out they go. Granted, the Republicans couldn't fix it in SIX YEARS. But what the heck... I'm going to give them another shot. Dems have to be perfect and fix everything RIGHT NOW. But the Republicans can take their time with it. WTF?? The GOP has been ignoring these employers and their illegal hiring practices for years. They did not and still do not want to "rock the boat" and upset these employers who contribute generously to their election campaigns. It's all about the money. It's always about the money. It always will be about the money. The focus of fixing immigration SHOULD be on the employers who hire undocumented workers, and not the undocumented workers themselves. Without jobs, these immigrants simply will not come to this country. This is why immigration has been declining in the past few years, because the jobs have been drying up, because of the recession. Immigrants are not coming to our country mainly for free social services, no matter what the conservatives keep claiming. Immigrants still need cold hard cash to rent a home and purchase food and clothing. Contrary to what folks like Donny choose to believe, undocumented workers cannot get all of their basic needs met without having a steady income. That means they have to work in order to live here. Without jobs, they simply cannot do it. Do you want to solve the immigration problem? Cut off the source of employment. Go after employers who hire undocumented workers. That is how you solve this problem. NOT with SB1070.

You've been told enough times. End of the damn story.

Act like the Federal government when it suits them. Act like an individual state government when it suits them. Sorry, but... it doesn't work that way, per the US Constitution. Either Arizona is a part of the United States of America and as such, defers to the Federal government in matters of our nation's border, or they're not a part of the US but a separate nation state. Pick one and accept it. Arizona as a state in the US, or Arizona as a separate nation state. You cannot have both.

Originally Posted By skinnerbox <<what do you call it when an intruder that sneaks covertly into your community and does not legally use resources that a full tax payer has paid for their entire life>> Undocumented workers do not "sneak covertly" into communities since they do not live and work inside basements. They openly rent apartments and houses and live and work and shop in the community, all above ground. They also PAY TAXES. Yes, Donny... they pay taxes. And not just sales tax. Most of them also contribute to payroll taxes, like unemployment insurance, workman's comp, and FICA. But unlike you and me, they will never be able to make a claim against any of those insurance programs they're paying into, because of their status. Employers are complicit in this activity. They've willfully accepted false SSA numbers for years. Undocumented workers pay into a system through payroll deductions that they will never be able to use, which helps to keep the programs solvent at the expense of the immigrants who cannot utilize them. So don't give me any crap about "using resources illegally" that they haven't paid for. It's simply not true.

Cities like Phoenix are great examples of what happens when you let real estate developers make all of your government policy decisions. The place is a complete disaster. So, what does Arizona do to fix the mess they are in? They blame illegals for all of their problems. Never mind that illegal immigration is down over 60% now from the start of the decade. In Arizona, it's just a scapegoat to distract voters from ever figuring out that their corrupt politicians were profiting off of the masses for a decade while they took kickbacks from real estate developers in exchange for no regulation and sweetheart deals to allow condo communities to be barfed up all over the desert.>> Go ahead and fact check this, Donny. It's absolutely true. Illegal immigration in AZ is down since 2000. Way down. Over 60% lower now than 10 years ago. And crime is also down. Sen Kyl was lying through his teeth. Crime is not up in AZ. It is declining, along with illegal immigration. You claim not to be an idiot. Then go ahead and do some research and find this stuff out for yourself. Arizona citizens are being taken for a ride by corrupt politicians who want to stay in power but are too afraid that their constituents will figure out what really went wrong. They blame undocumented workers for the states' ills, and the uninformed voters like you, Donny, eat it right up without question.

"With little Federal oversite"?? I know all about Form 1099. I have a M.A. and my profession is nothing but contractual. No one in my field works permanently for one company. If the employer is failing to report to the IRS about the income it's paying to the contractor, then that employer is essentially paying cash under the table, which is illegal. That is not the same as the employer issuing Form 1099 at the end of the job but failing to report it to the IRS. No form would be issued at the end of the job if the employer was not going to report it to the IRS. And if the employer does notify the IRS but the contractor fails to report the income, then that individual will eventually get caught up with and charged with tax fraud. Unless, of course, he or she flees the country. But from what you claim, Donny, that apparently is not happening, since these "covert illegals" are putting down roots in the communities and sucking up all kinds of illegal resources meant for FULL TAX paying citizens. How can you suck up tons of resources if you're fleeing the country after only six weeks on a construction job? You can't have it both ways.
