I'd suggest that Joe Vacationer ultimately signs up for something he often can't really afford or after a while, want to do every year. And I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but the fact they hawk these things in thr park does take away from the ambiance for me. Once you pass through that tunnel, you're supposed to be transported to some other magical place, not a sales pitch.

This, coupled with the already sketchy maintenance of the parks does detract from the ambience of the experience. Eisner pulled a lot of boners during his riegn at Disney. My wife, also a former WDW CM, used to actually be removed from areas of the park where Eisner was going to be that day, especially after the "trained monkey" comment. Her managers weren't stupid. I overlook the maintenence isues, because they are improving. EPCOT, formerly known to SM's and guests alike as "Eisner's Personal Coin Operated Toy", has seen much improvement since Eisner's departure. Its clean and has fresh paint again! Unfortunately, the on has been swapped for the other, and we have a new "opportunity" to indebt ourselves to the "company store" within the freshly-clean parks. The scenario with "Joe Vacationer" that can be suckered into anything is accurate, there are many like this and that I feel is what the company counts on. In all fairness, there are many more who are strong enough to say "No". Just the fact that they have these booths in the parks to take advantage of those that can't is enough to detract from the magical, seamless guest experience that I have come to know Disney for.
