But I don't have anything else to add ... he's 100% accurate, even if not politically correct.

They were very proud of themselves for beating the system and helping themselves to front of the lines.

Not that any of this surprised me as I'm aware this happens on a regular basis in every aspect of life. The truely sad part was that these little ones will grow up being taught by example how to lie and scheme to their own ends.

Personal responsibility is one of the things most needed and unfortunately most missing from todays world and these parents are raising a batch that will have no idea what I'm even talking about.

I can't change them but I can hold myself and those around me accountable and do as my kids would be glad to atest. And when we have grandchildren I have made it clear that we will expect the same from them. I hope that one day folks will wise up but I have my doubts.

Being in health care I am painfully aware of the issues facing the truely handicapped individual and the mounting problems resulting from the ever increasing waist lines of many Americans. The answers to the problem are certainly no mystery and have been discussed ad nausium but as my dear old granny used to say "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink".

I wish everyone a happy and HEALTHY New Year.:)

Being in the elder care industry I see the display cards and stickers passed around daily. I'm telling you anyone can easily borrow one. They are passed around like a refillable soda at a chain restaurant.

All you need is one legitimate or official recipient and then he can let it circulate among several drivers who want to use it on any given outing.

Also docs are very very liberal in granting.

Actually I get four miles done, in one hour and four minutes (16 minutes a mile). So you might consider accelerating your idea of "brisk walking". You're not going to burn much if you just make it a leisurely walk. Still, it's much easier on the knees than running, and at this pace, you burn about 70% the amount of calories as running the same amount of time. That ain't bad.

In an hour and a half, I do about five and a half miles. 90 minutes isn't unreasonable, and the biggest challenge is simply putting on your shoes and walking out the door. One minute into my walk, I remember how much I enjoy doing it.

Now, the working out... I hate that. I drag myself into the weight room, and sludge through it, but I do feel good afterward. And the difference it's made in my body is incredible.

A year after starting all this, my diabetes went away. I went from a size 40 waist to a size 31. I wear a small to medium in shirts. I sleep soundly, and I don't get besieged with colds and other dogging little ailments like I used to.

This simply is a lifestyle change, it's doable for anyone - it's simply a matter of will and priority.

Your "brisk walk" is brisker than is typical:

    <<Beginner
Try walking briskly at a 3 to 3.5-mph pace (walking a mile in 17-20 minutes), beginning with 10 minutes per day for the first three weeks. Slowly increase the time you walk by 5 minutes per week until you are able to walk 30 minutes per day, six days per week.>>

I know when I set the treadmill at 3.5 mph it feels more like a trot than a walk.

All I know is, I saw dramatic results in six months, and it wasn't that hard. And I get an awful lot done in my schedule.

Can you confirm that you went from having medically-diagnosed diabetes to being medically-diagnosed free from diabetes? I wasn't aware that this was possible, but it's very interesting if this is the case.

    In Minnesota in January?

Mr. Happy would more than likely get frostbite. Don't laugh... I'm not kidding. Without extra protection down there (stuff a sock maybe?) it frequently happens.

My doctor was stunned by the results of my blood tests, which showed no signs of diabetic anything. My blood sugar was normal (in the low 90's) and all my other chemicals were literally middle-of-the-line - in other words, more or less perfect.

Now what he SAID is, "once you're diagnosed diabetic, we have to assume you're always diabetic". But he also said that, had I not been diagnosed PRIOR to this as diabetic (type 2), if I'd just had these test results to go on, I would not be diagnosed as diabetic presently.

So that's about as good as it gets. Mine was triggered by too much sugar in sodas and starchy foods, and the severe reduction of these foods, coupled with losing several bowling balls of fat weight from my body, has stabilized my system.

As for walking in the snow... I walked in the rain, with a slicker. I didn't let anything get in the way of my regimen. When the weather was TOO much, I got a kickboxing bag, and did an hour on that, while watching television. Much more fun than a treadmill, and much less expensive. If you can locate a beam in your ceiling, embed a strong hook and get a 25 pound bag that you can place on that hook and remove quickly (so your wife doesn't get irritated with this new cosmetic addition).

Kickboxing or punching a bag is terrifically therapeutic, and great for ramping up the metabolism. You'll burn plenty doing that. And Mr. Happy will love you for losing the pounds.

    Trust me. ;-)

Heck... I can lose 5 pounds just by eating Lean Cuisines for lunch at work for a week.

Okay, again. Anyone hear any firm attendance estimates for Epcot's 12/31/06?
