This is an ad hominem fallacy. Today in Internet parlance, ad hominem is incorrectly bandied about to refer to insults or flames. In reality it literally means "the man" and refers to when people ignore arguments in favor of attacking the person. It's fallacious because a dumb person, or an evil person, or a foolish person, can still make a good argument or a good point. Here, Barney Frank's actions many years ago have no bearing on what happened at this town hall. Wahooskipper, for example, realized this and confined his criticisms to Frank's comments at the town hall. Would that all conservatives had taken some reason classes.

And any reasonable person would interpret it in the context of the link that was also provided in the OP - his response to the woman at the town hall. It's also been the focus of the thread throughout. But I suppose someone could have come along and said, "What a stupid thread! America is a Democratic Republic, so we don't even HAVE Kings! How can Frank be a King among men in America! Duh!" But, just like your post, that would've pretty much missed the point entirely.

This was all hashed out years ago, and despite the right wing (led by the influential Washington Times) calling for his head and powerful GOP congressmen/senators who would have loved nothing more than to oust him (or kill him politically), led ironically by Larry Craig (!), all the serious charges were found to have no substance. They did reprimand him for fixing the parking tickets. Basically, Frank foolishly fell for a good looking young person who played him for a fool temporarily - like that's never happened to a straight congressman. At least Frank wasn't married or involved with anyone at the time. And he shouldn't have fixed the parking tickets, he admitted as much, and he was rightly reprimanded and that was it. His constituents took note that there was no substance to any charge but the parking tickets, and returned him to office easily in the next election and have continued to do so ever since.

This is the kind of thing I KNEW was going to come from somewhere when I made post 4 in this thread. It has nothing to do with Frank properly putting down this woman's ridiculous display at the town hall and instead personally attacks Frank. Well done, charming husband, well done.

Make sense next time you decide to jump in here.
