Is there something you've written that's available? A book, or articles? I've got JSTOR access, if there's something in a film journal....

I wrote a number of Paramount Ranch history articles and some Dr. Quinn behind the scenes articles for a fan produced Dr. Quinn fan magazine several years ago called The DQ Times. But, other than that, no. Many people have been after me to write down what I know and, yes, I do need to do that!

I'll tell you one cool thing that happened, that has a Disney connection, since it relates to The DQ Times.

I didn't know it at the time, but the locomotive and tender part of the narrow gauge steam train used on Dr. Quinn was owned by Disney fan and train collector, Bill Norred, from whom CBS leased the equipment. (Loving steam trains, I was beside myself when I first found out they were bringing a real working train to the ranch for the show.) When I was on The DQ Times staff, we were contacted by a guy up in the California Central Coast area who had purchased the "DQ train" from Bill Norred's family after Bill passed away. This man had installed a loop of railroad track on his ranch property to run his "toys", the trains that he had bought. As some of you probably know, Bill Norred also owned the Disneyland RETLAW passenger coaches, the retired original enclosed passenger coaches. This guy also bought them, except for the Combine that is now at Walt's Barn. The guy was going to have a dedication for his railroad and invited us to attend. I can't even begin to express how awesome it was to get to ride in the then unrestored original Disneyland passenger coaches right before Disneyland kicked off the 50th anniversary celebration in 2005. That would have been enough for me, but the icing on the cake was they let us ride up in the cab of the Dr. Quinn locomotive, too, something that was never possible on the DQ set due to insurance and other considerations. Talk about a geek's dream come to life!

By the way, this ranch, up near Paso Robles, has a public day usually every spring in May as a fund raiser where they fire up the trains and you can go for a ride. One year John Lassiter brought the Marie loco he bought from Ward Kimball to the ranch for that! I'll see if they have posted the date and info for this year in case anyone is interested.

If you have any specific Paramount Ranch questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I field questions from Dr. Quinn fans from around the world all the time!

Of course, they were limited to staying in the "holding area" and the set and couldn't explore. They are pretty strict about letting the public on the property, so it's hard to swing a visit. I've even been chastized for taking photos from the public road adjacent to it! I have driven by the ranch many times. I usually drive by it when I go out that way for the Cowboy Festival at nearby Melody Ranch. When the Western town was still there, you could see if from the road that goes by the ranch.

I have had the chance to visit Big Sky Movie Ranch in Simi Valley a number of years ago and saw some of the Little House on the Prairie sets that still remained at that time. Sadly, all those sets have perished in wildfires. Some sets for Saving Mr. Banks were built at Big Sky Ranch.

Well, when I look at the news reports of the severe winter weather in other parts of the country, our CA sun feels mighty nice and warm and I'm quite happy that I live here!

LP's DlandDug was one such fan, and can be seen in the film sitting on a rafter. I think Rebekah may have also been a part of that shoot, but I'm not positive on that one

I'm pretty sure the house exterior was built for The Parent Trap out at Golden Oak Ranch. They may have very well used elements left over from Zorro interior sets to create the Parent Trap house interiors.

You might enjoy this blog that features a bunch of screen caps of the house!

It looks very much like the one that is in front of Ranch Del Zocalo at Disneyland! I wonder if they took inspiration from this one, or maybe this one came from Zorro?

You're right, Dug and Rebekah were there. A lot of folk from the NFFC (now DFC) were invited and some of my friends from the club were able to go.

A friend of mine fell in love with "Nobody's Problems" last night, but the demo version released a few years ago doesn't have the zing of the fully-scored version from the re-released film.

    Any suggestions?
