From the first time you see that menacing looking building sitting high on the hill you know you are in for something special. Then when you see the outside doors open and close, allowing you to see and hear the people screaming you wonder if it just might be a little TOO special. Then you wind through the once lush but now neglected gardens, past the fountains that have not seen water for years and years. Then you are in the hotel itself going through the lobby and into the library were Disney's very BEST pre-show takes place. Then the queue continues though the very spooky boiler room until you finally arrive at the freight elevators. It is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end.

And on a intellectual level it really introduces the ride very well, but not on an emotional level. There isn't really that much of a connection between museum and coaster. And I think that's what makes a queue really good: it introduces you to the story with information as well as with emotion. I would say the ToT is the one that does it best. Not only is there this eerie atmosphere, you also get clues as to where you are and that things aren't right somehow...

That said, I only care about queues as far as how they effect the total package. And I'd much rather have a bad queue and a great attraction, instead of a great queue (like say KRR) and an awful attraction. When done right, like Potter or ToT or Splash Mtn ... they can set up the experience and transport you away before you've even gotten close to load. But even if the queue is plain switchbacks, that can easily be forgotten and forgiven if the ride/show/attaction is top shelf. <<And no thanks to those refillable mugs and pool hopping threads - they would be the "Stitch's Great Escape of the discussion board world...>> Oh, they're always good for a little fun here ... and I see one mug thread has sprouted so organically too! ;-)

Oh Danny relax ... people can start whatever threads they care to. I was just commenting on it. I have that right. I just don't find queues, in and of themselves, all that interesting or stimulating.

There is plenty of mood-setting in the Everest queue, from the bells and iconography to the outfitting store to the museum which even features an exhibit of what happened to the famous lost expedition. It all goes to getting one in the frame of mind of actually going on an Everest adventure, with the added element of the possibility of a live and very dangerous yeti. I think the queue works totally well on an emotional level.

And I'd love to hear other voices wade into the waters of the social media thread, but regardless it will go on so long as there's a subject worthy of discussion. I'd say the way TWDC has been using social media to twist the way it is perceived in the fan community is a whole lot more interesting than whether someone likes Pooh's queue or Mission Space's etc. But there's room for all the threads we can possibly imagine here <<This thread may have just 54 posts, but they are by 16 distinct people talking about a wide range of queues. The other thread is of great interest to those of you who consider yourselves insiders, which is fine. I know whenever I tried moving just a little from the core subject of the topic so something a little new might be discussed I was promptly spanked by the Spirit and sent on my way. >> You weren't spanked. I just saw it heading into political and racial waters, which one of the trolls here would try and use to shut it down, specifically because it is generating interest well beyond the LP. <<But carry on boys. Make it go to a 1,000 posts. It will be interesting to see how many different ways Spirit can say the exact same thing.>> Trippy ... nah, nevermind. You enjoy the queues and I'll enjoy the actual attractions both in the parks and on the LP.

I still love that queue and your post did bring a few things back into memory that I had forgotten about like the bells. But I guess everyone is different with regard to what works for them on an emotional level, so just as you respect my view, I of course respect yours. The museum and the outfitting store aren't things that I connect with on an emotional level, they give me information.

Most of us really wouldn't know what we were talking about. We could give opinions, but they wouldn't really mean anything. <<You weren't spanked. I was thinking of a different thread where you spanked me; it wasn't this one. You did refer to that other thread in this one though. <<<<WDW circa 1985. Sounds like a classy place, doesn't it?>> Yep ... I think there's still another thread on that if it hasn't morphed into what EPCOT eateries you can get into tonight! ;-) >> I think your social media thread is a fine thread for the few here that may actually know what they are talking about, and you are one of those. And I think the queue thread is a fine thread for those of us who just enjoy WDW. By the way dear Spirit... I thought it might be fun to have a thread on the best restrooms in WDW. What do you think??
