A wounded note to his voice, Mr. Jackson pointed out that he had run against Mr. Biden for the 1988 Democratic nomination, and had lasted far longer and drawn more votes than did Mr. Biden. Mr. Biden was forced out in September 1987.

“I am not sure what he means — ask him to explain what he meant,†Mr. Jackson said. “I don’t know whether it was an attempt to diminish what I had done in ’88, or to say Barack is all style and no substance.â€

Mr. Sharpton said that when Mr. Biden called him to apologize, Mr. Sharpton started off the conversation reassuring Mr. Biden about his hygienic practices. “I told him I take a bath every day,†Mr. Sharpton said.

No stranger to electoral intrigue, Mr. Sharpton was quick to offer a political motive: That Mr. Biden was drawing distinctions between Mr. Obama and African-American leaders like Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson, to “discredit Mr. Obama with his base.â€<<

It is a blatant double standard which the media by and large is letting them get away with.

If it wasn't such a great synopsis of what the media has become then it would be funny.

Of course, I don't think Obama is considered the frontrunner by the media. How would they be portraying this if Hillary had said it? (Actually we have a little history on that as they gave her a pass when she tied the search for bin Laden to 7/11s.)

The media giveth...and the media taketh away. And, is that what they are supposed to be? Or, call me crazy, are they just supposed to report the news?

My guess is the media wants to play with Biden awhile more before actually letting him implode. So this will be the first of many things. They haven't even touched the plaguerism angle yet...so they are "Biden" their time.

It is also telling that there are only 26 posts on this topic.

    If the topic had read:

"Condolezza is mysteriously absent" how many folks in LP do you think would have commented on it?

-He's articulate and he's bright. I don't think anyone would argue otherwise.

-He's clean and nice looking. Looks good in a suit and has good physical features. Moreover, he's clean by any definition you want to use. But to get to the point here, is everyone here who is saying Biden meant something sinister here going to say they've never either themselves used the phrase "clean and nice looking" or heard someone else use it? "Clean and nice looking" could easily describe a person, place or thing. Obama is clean and nice looking. Some beaches in the South Pacific are clean and nice looking. That '57 Chevy is clean and nice looking.

What part about what Biden said was wrong or not true?

Maybe he should have said that with a touch of wounded sadness.

But he said "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." - which can be read as not only weren't Jackson and the others mainstream (which could be argued), but they weren't articulate and bright and clean or nice-looking either. Thus, the hubbub.
