And like others, I find new things to marvel at every time I visit a Disney park. I've just started to notice the transitional effects that Disney uses when moving from land to land, thanks to the excellent book from John Hench on Disney design. I hope they continue to provide these kind of details, or else they risk slipping down into Six Flags territory.

But the other big issue over the past 50 posts or so has been the visibility of the Swan & Dolphin from Epcot. I personally think that this being an intentional decision from Mr. Eisner, it doesn't fall into the area of lack of attention to detail. I still think the 2 hotels fit right in. Others don't. But just because I don't have a problem with the hotels doesn't mean that I automatically don't hold Disney to a high standard of detail.

    No, frankly I don't.

I notice that trash sticks around longer than it used to before being picked up. I notice that restrooms are now routinely messy where they used to be routinely spotless. I notice that menus at table service restaurants are losing the number of selections.

But have I ever noticed that the Swan and Dolphin hotels are visible from the World Showcase? No, I have not. I'm sure I've seen them. But it never made enough of an impact on me that I noticed one way or the other. And I do notice things. The ugly fireworks barges bother me every time I see them.

    But Swan/Dolphin?

Nah... they're fine as far as I'm concerned.

    I totally agree.

And just because I do have a problem with the hotels where they are, doesn't mean that I'm an anal-retentive jerk who looks for the flaws in everything Disney does and who is incapable of 'just having fun.'

I must have missed a post somewhere. I don't remember anyone saying that!

Or that perhaps I'm some sort of oddball for noticing it in the first place.

Eh -- whatever -- It's just the same old shit I always hear, really. Why should today be any different?

I don't want to fight anymore - really, I don't. I'll just make a comment as to what I'm seeing, and you can take it or leave it, Jim.

There are obviously people who care about the hotels, and people who don't. I certainly am never going to say that you're wrong for feeling the way you do - just that I don't agree with you. But it seems to me that you have a tendency to get kinda pissed off that you can't convince hard heads like me to see it your way. I understand the philosophy behind your opinion, but I can't make myself see it your way, as the hotels just don't impinge on my perceptions as any kind of problem.

I always enjoy a good debate, and I look forward to many more with you, my friend in Merced!

When he cam on board he disliked what he saw which were two designs that matched what was on Hotel Plaza Boulevard already. He tried to back out of the deal but was hit with a lawsuit and had to go through with it but was able to change the details. The two hotels were to, originally be located in a different location. It was never stated where that location was. Eisner was able to move them from that location to their present spot and was also able to get a copetition going with different architects submitting designs. Eisners choice won the compatition. The question is, did Eisner get some of his wishes granted by moving the two hotels next to Epcot. I love the Swan and Dolphin but rerally wish they had been moved back aways so that the didn't intrude on the World Showcase Skyline.

No... it only suggests that the average person doesn't see this. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I do not think it is unreasonable at all for you to notice it. I think it MAY be unreasonable to expect Disney to adhere to a design philosophy that most people will never notice. Personally, I'd be pretty happy if they just started keeping the restrooms clean again.

They all have to do with a certain management style manifesting itself.

They also are both part of the WalMarting of WDW.
