Ticket sales basically ground to a halt, once Narnia opened.

Long term, I doubt the film will be viewed as being a classic, but it certainly takes a lot of stretching to try and spin it as less than successful.

simply not true -- box office numbers so bad the last few years $130 M gross domestic is very very good. Look at the top 20 movies at the box as of this last weekend and you will find very few close to $50M total let alone $100. Also CL is the only movie in the top twenty older than 5 weeks after release ( 8 weeks ) -- so while not Potter ( also CL much more limited overseas releases yet) consider this:

Kong $118 Domestic yet I don;t see anyone telling Peter Jackson his movie is a flop ( budget $207M - 3 1/2 times budget of CL - and far less kids tickets

    Kong $118M Domestic + $153 Overseas for $271 ( or 31% over budget of $207M)

    Narnia $153M domestic + $78 overseas for $242M ( 34% over budget of $180M)

    Chicken Little $130M domestic + $66M overseas for $196M ( 227% over budget of $60M)

    Potter $260M domestic + $497M overseas for $759M ( 406% over budget of $150M)

now short of Potter find another movie with returns of that % over budget in 2005.

War of the Worlds and Charlie & Chocolat Factory both costing twie as much.

CL is no classic for the ages - but by next week it will move in to the top 300 movies of all time box office wise- and after more overseas release settle in maybe 225 -- a flop ? nope

Really? I imagine there are very many execs in all the studios who would seriously disagree with you and would love to have all of their pictures be $130 million "not outright flop" "modest at best" releases.

Yeah tell that to the makers of Kingdom of Heaven, Cinderella Man, the Island and Stealth. If I remember the budgets for each film were 140 million, 90 million, 120 million and 130 million. Respectively they grossed 45,62,36 and 30 million. I'm sure they would have loved to hit 130 million. Even though some would still be in the red.

In terms of success, I think most would agree that the goal for Chicken Little was to compete enough so that studio execs would not regret the decission to switch to computer animation and to be able to say to critics, "See! We can pull this off ourselves." Chicken Little has done well enough to meet that goal, and thus is a success.
