I can't believe no other theme park other than Disney has ever had a horrible tragedy. I mean when that tree in Frontierland fell on the popcorn cart it was front page in many cities. It is a horrible tragedy that a child died at a happy place. It just seems the news media covers it more because if it Disney. I was watching fox news and they really played up all the deaths that have happened at WDW the last few years. However, it seemed a little unfair, because according to a report this is the first major incident on the Coaster. It been open how many years? If this is the first incident taht is a preety good record.

Byron Russell noticed his son, Michael, became limp while they rode the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster along with his mother and 7-year-old brother Thursday morning. When the minute-long ride finished, Byron Russell pulled Michael off the ride and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, said Barbara Miller, Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman. The boy was pronounced dead after he was taken by ambulance to Celebration Hospital, Disney said in a statement. The cause of death was not immediately determined and medical examiners planned to perform an autopsy Friday. "According to the family, he was a very healthy child," Miller said. "The father repeated that he was healthy, he had no problems."<<

Though Disney has portable heart defibrillator units stationed throughout its parks, there was not one available to use on Michael until the paramedics arrived, according to an audiotape of the 911 call. (Paramedics earlier indicated it took about six minutes for them to arrive.) The child's heart was first shocked 7 minutes and 3 seconds after the 911 call, according to Jones. The boy was transported to Celebration Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Portable defibrillators, called automatic external defibrillators, determine if a heart is quivering without pumping blood and will automatically shock it to try to restore a normal beating pattern. The procedure is not always successful. The availability of portable defibrillators at Walt Disney World became an issue earlier this month when a wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the parents of a child who died last year after riding Mission: Space at Epcot.<<

You don't have to be a paramedic to successfully use one, the CM's could easily be trained to use them and they could potentially save lives particularly since it is on the thrill rides that most previously unknown heart conditions seem to surface. They can't be that expensive to install as our local malls have them.

Maybe it's just me, but anytime I see a reference like that to the hospital I wince like someone just kicked me in the stones. Why don't the just make room for Celebration Cemetary and create a line of headstones in the shape of your favorite character.
