I didn't get to see The Exorcist until it was released on VHS and trust me... I was hard falling asleep that night.

Of course, this was the 4:30 movie in the 70's. They cut the shower scene. They cut the scene where Martin Balsam gets killed. You knew what happened, but they cut the scenes and just went right to the end of them. So you didn't really see anything scary. Which is why I wasn't really scared, and congratulating myself for watching this famously-scary movie by myself. Then came the scene with Vera Miles walking into the basement. "Mrs. Bates? Mrs. Bates?" <wheelchair turns around revealing corpse with wig and horrifying wizened smile> <12 year old having seven kinds of stuffing scared out of him> Never trust the 4:30 movie.

Back when the ABC Tuesday Night Movie of the Week was on, my dad & mom watched it every week without fail. For me, the theme song meant bedtime. On rare occasion, my dad would let me stay up and watch one of these 90-minute made for TV movies (what a great concept, why don't they do that again?). Anyway, they would have quick little promos for that evening's movie, and one of them was called 'The Eyes of Charles Sands.' I never saw the movie, and have no idea what it was about, but at one point they showed a guy suddeny sitting up on a funeral parlor table, the camera zooms in on his face, and he opens his eyes and they're completely white. Being 10, it freaked me out no end. I slept with the light on for a week at least.

If this happened, in a funeral parlor, there would be an evacuation.<< Evacuation indeed.

Because of the freaky stories/reactions I've heard, I've taken a vow to never watch "The Exorcist" in my own home, and not alone.
