I sooooo wanted Jesse to escape, though I knew if he did he'd have scooped up Brock and Andrea and gotten the hell out of Albq, and he needs to be there next week. But man. Rip my heart out, why don't you? And how creepy was the baby scene? Combined with killing Andrea - if there's anyone who could get me to root for Walt even a little now it's him going up against those psycho, um, ducks as Jesse put it. Well, that plus Cranston's performance (and how did HE not win last night? I've seen Newsroom, and Daniels is a fine actor, and Cranston's won before... but come on). Even after everything Walt has done, he still made you feel for him, especially when he paid the vacuum cleaner guy to stay just a little while longer with him. He's essentially already in prison, and solitary at that. And then when Flinn went off on him (deservedly) and thwarted the one thing he thought he could still do, and shattered his thoughts about any of this really being about his family... just start polishing next year's Emmy for Cranston now.

MacLaren has been my favorite director on a show that uses several of the best in the biz.

Last night's episode was just sad all the way around. I'm hoping Jack and his goons are finished off this week, and creepy Todd, too. I was elated when Jesse broke free momentarily, and shocked at the outcome. Robert Forster was great as the vacuum guy, and I think he had the line of the evening when Walt asked him if he would see that the barrel of money got to Walt's family after he dies. "If I said yes, would you believe me?"

"If I said yes, would you believe me?"> An important line, I think, because Walt said "no." At that point he had finally stopped deluding himself that he could be a help to his family in any way. Of course, Walt loves deluding himself, and the delusion came back when he thought he had a brilliant idea about sending money to Flynn via Lewis, but that delusion was shattered in the most unmistakable form possible with the phone call. At that point, he really had no delusions of family left, and was ready to turn himself in. Until he saw Gretchen and Elliot belittling his accomplishments... and if Walt can't delude himself about doing everything for his family any more, Heisenberg can still make sure we "remember his name" if he goes out guns blazing. Some people online are speculating that the M60 is meant for Gretchen and Elliot - which makes no sense. If he wanted to kill them, you wouldn't choose something so heavy and unwieldy that a healthy man has trouble handling it - and it would be like killing a squirrel with a grenade launcher. A simple, concealable handgun would take care of those two, if that's what he wanted. Uncle Jack and his gang, on the other hand... if you're going to take them on solo, you need superior firepower. So is the ricin for G&E? I still think that's for Lydia's tea (and maybe for Todd, if he creepily finishes her tea after she leaves). I'm still hoping Jesse walks away. Obviously not unscathed, but perhaps can find some redemption if he takes care of Brock, for instance. I'm hoping Walt gives the ricin to Lydia, Todd drinks it too (very Romeo and Juliet!), then Walt shoots up the compound. In the fight, Jesse gets away. Perhaps there's a final confrontation between the two - even a wordless one - and Walt could kill him but in a final act of humanity lets him go. Hardly makes up for everything, but at least there's that. Then Walt blows up the Nazis AND himself with...science! Of course, "whatever you think is gonna happen, the exact complete opposite is gonna happen."

But they were saying while Walt's family has been crumbling, Jessie doesn't really have one, Uncle Jack, Todd and the rest are the closest thing the show has to a stable family, no matter how horrible they are.

Walt's in there somewhere, not completely Heisenberg. I know you all will know what that paragraph meant, but think of somebody just wandering in to read it if they'd never seen the show. LOL!

Vince Gilligan and Co haven't steered us wrong and I don't expect them to start.
