Then, of course, the rest of the episode was mostly about Jesse coming to (near)-complete realization of just what Walt has become. The moment he realized that if he didn't take Walt up on his suggestion to disappear that the other "alternative" was that Walt would kill him just like he did Mike was chilling. But you were glad Jesse finally saw it. And the hug was creepy... notice that Jesse didn't hug back; he just kind of collapsed in resignation - he knew he had only one choice, and part of him was relieved. The Jesse/Hank interrogation scene, which I had been gleefully anticipating all week, turned out to be anti-climactic - but completely believable. Note that when Hank asked if Jesse would be willing to talk about what he knew, just before Saul came in and shut everything down, was "not to you." Which leaves open the possibility that he'd be willing to tell someone else. Especially now. Obviously, Jesse putting two and two together about the disappearing Ricin cigarette sent him in a rage over to Walt's. We already know from the flash-forward that he doesn't actually burn the house down... I'm now thinking it might be Jesse who wrote "Heisenberg" on the wall, though it could have just been some random vandal (Carol's reaction to "hello, Carol" in the first episode made it clear that by then Walt was outed as Heisenberg to the world). So why does Jesse not light the match? Does Walt walk in? Does Walt Jr. walk in?

It's the first time I have ever guessed correctly at what might happen on this show! >>So why does Jesse not light the match? Does Walt walk in? I wouldn't turn down guacamole made at the table. The confession tape was just astounding. I could not believe that happened, but I think it made the most sense, since he's not going to Belize I was thinking Walt was going to kill Jesse when they were in the desert but what happened was much creepier. Right now Walter White is a liar and beyond despicable. I wonder if what we see in flash forward is his shot at redeeming himself Oh and I didn't see this until I read Alan Sepinwall's review but if you watch the scene in Saul's office when Jesse is trying to get past Huell you can see Huell go into Jesse's pocket.

Originally Posted By Dabob2 Okay - I thought this week's episode was very, very good, but more of a "breather" compared to the previous three. Which was fine - they can't all be gasp-inducing, and probably shouldn't be. I admit I was surprised when it was revealed that it was Hank who was responsible for stopping Jesse from burning down Walt's house, but in retrospect, it made perfect sense that Hank would be trailing Jesse. The episode's title, "Rabid Dog," of course referred to Jesse. And it was stunning to see first Saul, then Skylar, then Hank all refer to him as expendable or worse. Worse, in the sense that the first two actually advised Walt to flat-out kill him (albeit euphemistically) and then even Hank told Gomez that if the plaza meet-up was indeed a trap, at least if Walt killed Jesse, "we'd have it all on tape." So even to Hank, Jesse was expendable in the service of (his) larger goal - interesting shades of Hank manipulating Jesse, as of course Walt has been doing for years. Walt seemed to want to spare Jesse if possible - and seemed to still have confidence in his super-genius ability to manipulate Jesse into doing what he wanted if he could just talk to him - but by the end Walt too seems to want Jesse dead. I say "seems" because I suppose it could be a Gilligan feint - that "job for your uncle" could be about Hank rather than Jesse (note that Walt didn't say.) Of course, at this point I don't think Walt is supposed to know that Hank has gotten to Jesse, so maybe that's a reach. At any rate, I'm glad the Walt/Jesse-with-a-wire scene didn't happen, as that would have been a little too neat and standard-cop-procedural for this show. I'm dying to know what Jesse's "better way" for bringing down Walt is, and they cannily left that hanging. Jesse has shown himself to be smarter-than-you-think on several occasions, and given how well Jesse knows Walt (especially now that the blinders have fallen away), it will be interesting to see what that plan is - and also whether Gilligan lets us in on it all the way, or keeps certain aspects of it hidden, so that we're perhaps surprised right along with Walt. Internet speculation has a couple of pet theories already: one is that Jesse will target Walt's kids, but that would seem completely out of character, and Hank would never go along with that either unless it was false (i.e. he sends them off with Marie and they just TELL Walt they've got them). The favorite theory now is that Jesse will hit Walt in the ego by cooking for Todd, and producing the "good blue stuff" again - as good as Walt's, which he won't be able to stand. Interesting theory, but hard to believe Hank would go along with something that involves putting more of that stuff on the street, or that Todd and family would ever cooperate with the DEA. Maybe they won't KNOW they're cooperating (only Jesse will)? Maybe Hank's willingness to go along will be further evidence of him doing anything just to get Walt? I guess. But I'm hoping Jesse's idea will be something we haven't thought of yet.
Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan >>I'm hoping Jesse's idea will be something we haven't thought of yet.<< Yeah, me too. I don't think the idea of Jesse doing anything to threaten Walt's kids makes sense at all. The death of the boy on the dirt bike and the near death of his girlfriend's son were the things that pushed Jesse over the edge. It's what is feeding his rage against Walt. I can't see Hank doing anything that would in any way pulling his niece and nephew into this at all. I have no idea what Jesse's better idea is. But I'd say the biggest shocker this week was Skyler suggesting that Walt kill Jesse. Whatever happens, now Gomez is involved and knows everything, which makes things much more difficult for Walt. The amazing thing about this show is how, even within one episode, the cat and mouse of it makes you root for and against various characters. One minute you want Walt to outsmart Hank and Jesse, the next you're fearing for them and wanting them to catch Walt. Man, I'm gonna miss this show so much.

The other big matzo ball hanging out the with Walt and Jesse is Jane of course. I have a feeling that may come up this week. And we have to be coming to the point soon of when the flash forward will occur.

Here's a wilder yet perhaps more logical theory: country music fans know that the name Felina figures prominently in the classic Marty Robbins song "El Paso." A song that name-checks New Mexico, for one thing. And is about a man who kills someone for the love of this woman Felina (and Walt has certainly killed people, justifying it all as being for the people he loves), flees, then comes back and gets shot himself when he returns for her. It might be a bit of a longshot, but hey... if you hear that song in the background of episode 6 or 7 or 8... you heard it here first! Of course, Gilligan could just be playing with us... it's also an anagram for "finale." (!)
