I know on a national basis there is focus on that 'stuff' - and I agree, it's nonsense as really it has little impact on anything that controls my life. I am pro life for a lot of reasons ( like my wife is adopted ) - and for my religious beliefs...but they are my beliefs and I understand they will not be everyone's -- so be it. A woman's right to choose may bother me when some use it as a form of birth control, I believe that is reckless and wrong..however in cases of incest/rape - although against my religious beliefs I get it. Gay rights - not sure how giving others equal rights to live their lives would possibly hurt anyone, so again - non issue for me. I guess that is why I am not a talk radio listener ( okay I listen to sports talk radio - but besides bemoaning the fact our teams here always find a way to lose - I find it harmless ). <The GOP is now all about gay marriage, and identifying Anti-Americans pagans, and the boogyman.< Honestly, none of these are issues local GOP candidates even bring up here - fiscal issues are by far #1.

He agreed to plead guilty after he was told that federal investigators had taped him conspiring with his former campaign manager, John Leaberry, to obstruct the investigation into his activities. Moore pled guilty to an indictment that said he accepted illegal payments during his 1984 and 1988 election campaigns, extorted more than $573,000 from a Maben Energy Corporation, a coal company based in the town of Beckley, and obstructed the investigation. Moore served two years, eight months in federal prison"

Originally Posted By RoadTrip <<You apparently support McCain and maybe even Palin, tell us why. Obama believes that the decision to invade Iraq was wrong from the start. I do not. Based on what we knew at the time it was the proper decision. Hillary still thinks so. Lieberman still thinks so. The war was conducted terribly, but if McCain’s recommendations for more troops at the beginning would have been followed we likely would have been out of there long ago. Obama criticized Georgia which is absurd. The Georgian government was trying to bring a rebellious state under control. Russia was attacking a sovereign nation. There are just too many instances where I feel Obama has made the wrong call on defense and foreign policy. 2) Health Care. McCain will provide a tax credit which will allow most people to pay for all or a major portion of their insurance costs. Obama supports a national health plan for those with no other insurance. This will cost a fortune because the people going to this plan will be primarily those who cannot get insurance elsewhere. He promises that the national plan will be based on the benefits available to members of Congress. Is the man nuts? No one has benefits that good outside of the Federal Government. He will be insuring the uninsurable with the most expensive plan possible. He claims that he will cut health care costs by 25%. How? By asking them to? He is making a promise that he will not be able to deliver on. 3) Tax Policy. Contrary to Obama’s claims, that vast majority of the Bush tax cut went to low income families. The reduction of the lowest tax bracket from 15% to 10%, the increased child tax credit, and reduction of the marriage penalty provided substantial savings to low and middle income taxpayers. This was about twice as much as what the “wealthy” received through reduced capital gains, dividend and estate taxes. With our economy in the shape it presently is in it makes absolutely no sense to DISCOURAGE investment which is exactly what Obama’s tax plans would do. Do I like the way Bush has run his campaign? I absolutely do not. But I’m not voting for Miss Congeniality. I’m voting for President of the United States. The issues I’ve outlined above are far, far more important than how McCain conducts his campaign.

That's just how good I am. http://www.realclearpolitics.c...s_a.html Pertinent excerpts . . . >> Powell told Tom Brokaw that he still believes that war was the right course of action, based on what he and other officials knew - or thought they knew - at the time. He said he believes the war was mishandled. And he said he still opposes a "deadline" for withdrawing U.S. troops, though he added that a "timeline" for withdrawal is beginning to emerge. That would be a fair summation of John McCain's position on Iraq, not Obama's. << >> Powell framed his endorsement largely in terms of how McCain, Sarah Palin and their supporters have conducted the campaign against Obama -- and what that conduct says about McCain's judgment. It was hard not to conclude that Powell is offended by some of the Republican tactics and that he has decided to fire back in a way that Obama cannot. << >> What I found fascinating was how he framed it more as a set of reasons to vote against the McCain-Palin ticket than a set of reasons to vote for Obama and Joe Biden. << >> Powell is a moderate Republican who listens to all this innuendo about terrorism and all this rhetoric equating the income tax with socialism and wonders what in the world has happened to his once-grand old party. <<
