I think it's kind of in bad taste to name your kid "Tripp" right after your mother is arrested on drug charges. It also is funny considering Palin being mayor of Alaska's meth capital. It's like naming your kid "Amore" right after your famous dad is arrested being arrested for hiring a prostitute.

Really you loathe her children too? I get loathing her and the husband, but let's leave the kids out of this.

Makes you think.

"In the same statement, Bristol Palin said she "obviously discourages" teen pregnancy and understands previous plans have been forever changed.

"Teenagers need to prevent pregnancy to begin with — this isn't ideal," the teenager said. "But I'm fortunate to have a supportive family which is dealing with this together. Tripp is so perfectly precious; we love him with all our hearts. I can't imagine life without him now."

So is Bristol Palin supportive of comprehensive sex education? Or is she saying that abstinence only teaching is the only way to prevent pregnancy? It sure sounds like she wishes someone had discussed birth control with her. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I am thrilled that she's happy and raising her baby with support from her family. Many teen mothers are not so fortunate.

I don't think I've read any comments that are personally critical of Bristol. I know I'm certainly not making any negative judgements against her.

But do I think her mistake warrants attention? Hell, yes.

Her mother is a policy-maker who has used her legislative power to impose her own morality-based position upon the people of Alaska. Sarah Palin believes that providing good Christian "family values" is THE appropriate and effective solution to the problem of unwed teen pregnancy. And she has done everything she can to make sure that her religion-based position -- as opposed to the approach of providing simple, honest, biological truth to students -- is enforced by the schools of her state.

Bristol's getting knocked up is majorly newsworthy because it is the perfect example to show that Sarah Palin's position is ridiculous, untenable and ineffective.

It's somewhat analagous to the phenomenon of married guys soliciting other men for sex in public restrooms. Honestly, I feel sad for these guys, not judgemental toward them. And, unfortunately, it's such a common occurence that no single case stands out as being newsworthy. Except...

When the guy who's actively approaching a male stanger for sex ALSO happens to be a senator who is virulently promoting anti-gay legislation, that's newsworthy.

But I have NO problem attacking Grandma hypocrite, who is a community leader and advocates all kinds of crazy, religious stuff which generally leads to harm FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

So, Sarah Palin is DEFINITELY fair game and it's fair to talk about the results SHE has personally come up with, yes even in her own family (maybe even "especially"??).
