There's no place in Southern CA that looks like that. ESPECIALLY with all the wild life. (Maybe Northern CA, near NAPA?) I wouldn't be surprised they did go to Africa for their "location" shots. I'd love to know.

Even 200 years ago, the attire was markedly different for the most part..and that's even in the "Western" style that most of the world has now adopted (but not ALL of the world even today). 200 years ago in Japan, the attire was completely different than it is today, for example. What makes you think there won't be changes going forward?

And blue jeans have been "in" since the 50's. I could see some changes in casual wear, but I wouldn't be surpised if denim was still fashionable hundreds of years from now.

Why didn't God just mess with a few space ships while they were "jumping" and bring them to the planet at the end of the series? If God can remake Starbuck, all her memories and rebuild a ship certainly God can make a couple malfunctions happen to bring colonists and cylons together on his chosen planet. I did however like Starbuck being an Angel, I pretty much figured that out at the begining of the season. The "wing" tattoo on her arm was a dead give away or a trubute to Aerosmith, your pick.

A common theme. Think of the Israelites wandering 40 years before reaching the promised land.

In so many ways this ending was such a let down. And I simply don't understand have Baltar and Caprica at the end walking around modern name Earth and then showing robots. And the statements "this has all happened before and it will all happen again does begin to get tedious. It just seems that this is not the ending the writers wanted so they put something together in no time flat ( the director claimed the ending all came to him while taking a shower ). The last episode reminded me so much of the Butteryfly effect.. where it was all these "planted" things that God did that lead up to the crux of the whole show. As a viewer it just seems so stupid. Make you wonder why you bothered to watch 5 years of this show to have it end this way. I guess most of the episodes were just filler leading up to the let down ending. And what is it with Sci Fi shows that they can't end on a happy note? Why not just end it with Hera with Sharon and her Dad... why even show modern day Earth with Boltar and Caprica?

I did have trouble with the "lets toss technology and move back into the stone age" decision. After living on the edge for years I would think that the survivors would want some creature comforts. I know they did this to explain why we are less advanced today than they were. I guess I would have been happier with them founding Atlantis or Lemuria and then mysteriously disappearing later.
Originally Posted By fkurucz <<But lets follow your train of though, then why have them live in isolation when they take residence on Earth?>> Think of it as a "Noah's Ark" story. A corrupt humanity is destroyed and the remnant gets to start over, with the twist of "new blood" (the Cylons) tossed in. The odds are that it will happen all over again, but maybe, just maybe, not this time. If I had been Adama I would have taken time to repair the fleet and search for other star systems to colonize. Spreading humanity across the galaxy as opposed to keeping it in one place (Earth or the 12 colonies) would be insurance to preserve humanity from extinction. That must be the Asimov in me speaking though. I suppose that it isn't fair to compare BSg to the Foundation stories.

Originally Posted By TheRedhead "I did have trouble with the "lets toss technology and move back into the stone age" decision. From the beginning, we see the group that survives a global 9-11 being the ones that stayed off the grid. Add in bullets instead of lasers and Men's Warehouse suits instead of kevlar jumpsuits (shot with a bumpy documentary-style shooting), and it kinda makes sense that the show would get back to very basic basics. In fact, I think it would seem completely hypocritical if they decided to build a hi-tech city, given how their butts got saved, as if they hadn't learned their lesson.

How about instead we just all promise not to delve in AI or Nukes?

The hope of the Gods, as expressed by the Angels (Devine Beings, Aka Head Six and Head Baltar), is that this time humanity (which we now know is a cylon/human hybrid) can break the cycle and put an end to slavery (human or robot), race hatred (we are all one race just with different cultures (another theme of the show)), and war. When it comes down to it the show's creators are really optimistic we can succeed in changing the cycle. They just felt they had to go to a really dark place to make their point to the rest of us. In the end BSG really was about the characters first and sci-fi second. By staying true to that, they created the greatest Sci-Fi show ever. Now I'll make my pitch for Dollhouse. Joss Whedon, former Disney writer, has produced another amazing show with hard to tangle with themes (it shares the slavery theme with BSG) and great writing. Dollhouse got mistreated by the Network Execs at Fox, but go watch one or two of the first five episodes on Hulu then watch episodes 6 and 7 so you're up to date.

Don't get me wrong I don't think it was awful. I just don't think it was the best. With the Star Wars series and with the multiple Startrek series, I think Sci Fi fans expect a lot. BGS doesn't always deliver. IMHO Babaloyn 5 was a much better "fresher" series.

We finally caught up with all the Dollhouse episodes this weekend, after letting them languish on tivo for too long. I dunno, there was something about the promos that didn't grab us at first, but boy howdy do we love this show!
