Could be abandoned, or it could be left as an access road with a couple of gates. There will be two "crossovers," one at the main "Route 66" entrance, and one at the entrance from Pacific Wharf.

They left the road that used to separate Flik's Fun Fair from the Hollywood Tower Hotel, with a couple of gates where the public areas have been added.

I've been curious about this one myself. The original start point (next to the Playhouse Disney building) is now accessed through a "public" area, between bug's land and Tower of Terror. They could back the entrance up all the way to the gate next to the Tower gift shop. But this would mean parades would step down Hollywood Blvd, requiring a tight turn at the corner, as well as passing under the archway at the entrance.

Al Lutz said the following about this topic back in February, and he claims there will be three (3) separate access paths for Cars Land. From his February update...

Al Lutz, February 22nd, 2011<< "The sprawling Cars Land project has been getting closer to the existing theme park lately by way of the first of three so-called portals in to the new land. The first of these portals is already under construction just behind the Pacific Wharf food court area, where a pathway out of the land is being built to link up to the Pacific Wharf area.

When that portal is complete, the second portal will begin construction at the back of Flik’s Fun Fair just beyond the bumper cars to plug in to a Cars Land pathway leading behind the Cozy Cone Motel snack bar. The final path into Cars Land is the most obvious; the long entrance roadway that creates the new main street for the land. The goal here is to ensure Cars Land is easy to get to from several angles, and not relegated to a dead-end area like Mickey’s Toontown that can get cut off by passing parades."<<

It will also be interesting to see how the dynamic of FFF changes with large crowds in it. It already feels very very different than it did last year with only one access point, so I can't imagine what it will be like with 3 points, and the 'secret' back way into the big new land. Eeek!

Perhaps Al is cribbing from me now. Here's what I "revealed" in an update from November 1, 2010:
"It was confirmed that there will be two other entrances to Carsland, to the left and right of the intersection in the middle of town. Street to the right will connect at the natural arch (obscured by trees) at the back of Pacific Wharf. Street to the left will connect in Bugsland, between Drive 'em Buggies and Chew Chew Train."
