So the next time joe liberal tells us we need to stop our dependance on foreign oil, they need to tell us why they are against us getting our own oil.

And a lot of people have paid dearly for it. >>Still doesn't change the fact that we have enough oil in America to keep us going.<< But not for very long. I think we should save our oil for a rainy day while reducing consumption. There isn't a whole lot of oil being created these days - at least not very quickly. I think we're idiots for using up a limited resource faster than we need to. But then I guess I'm one of those liberals who think about something more than just myself.

Avromark is giving great reasons why we need to expand out preexisting rail service. Trains are great for moving large groups of people from point A to point B. Did you know that Muir Woods never had polution when the train brought people there. As soon as the train was taken away and cars were allowed in/ out of Muir Woods then pollution came in. There are some good reasons to expand out mass transit system. Cars and trucks are not the answer to everything.

It's all about having your cake but you can't eat it. It might offend someone or maybe you will kill a few trees getting it. "Hey quit using that oil from over there, and don't drill any from under this tree I am hugging." That logic sounds reasonable. I am all FOR the ideal of not destroying our natural habitats and ecosystems, but someone please realize the dependancy on foreign oil isn't going to change, unless we drill our own oil, which we won't, or unless our dependancy on oil itself changes, and I cannot see that happening until its too late, until the oil runs out, and society collapses.

What if the auto industry said screw you, I can't make any money with these new regulations and we are now going to shut down. Hmmmm Of course I want a car that gets good mileage. I also want a car that is strong enough to handle a crash into a hybid go cart. Since people will buy cars that get good milage, the auto makers will produce those cars without the government telling them they have to do it or else. I want some lib to go create their own new car that gets 200 MPG or else shut up. LOL

That's the beauty of a market economy. >>Of course I want a car that gets good mileage. GMs first models show up next year. The fuel economy gains aren't great, but won't have much difficulty meeting the 10% goal. It's like the Bush administration went out an asked their cronies in the automobile industry what the lowest bar they could possibly achieve in terms of fuel economy -- and then set it a notch lower. Not much of a challenge or a goal at all. I have had the wonderful experience during the past two weeks of riding the bus to and from work every day. I am currently undergoing training at a weapons training facility in North Carolina, and the Navy is shuttling me and my classmates to and from the location every day. For years, I have looked for a way to use mass transit to commute to work -- but the mass transit system in my city is completely useless to get me to work on time or back home in the evening. So, I have to settle for my own vehicle and the daily run up and down the congested interstate. I've learned in the past 2 weeks that I really enjoy riding the bus to work -- it is convenient, much more economical for me that driving my car, and I can get a lot of work done during the commute. If only our cities had more progressive mass transit solutions that would allow more people to take advantage of alternatives to the automobile for local transportation, that would make a bigger contribution to fuel economy than meager emissions reductions for automobiles.
