In other words, you don't know. People who study the ecology of the area are much more definitive. <<I posted two links showing that drilling in ANWR would have precious little effect on either oil prices or weaning us off foreign oil.>> <You posted two links claiming that. Yeah for you.> They also showed how they reached their conclusions. And you countered with... oh, that's right. Nothing. <<Perhaps you'd like to show why their calculations are wrong, then, instead of just asserting it.>> <I've explained it. If you can't follow the explanation, then I'm sorry.> No, you didn't. All you had was this lame attempt, saying as oil gets more expensive it becomes more economically viable to extract it. That's true for oil that is more expensive to extract than traditional drilling, i.e. oil sands and things like that. But for ANWR, what they're talking about IS traditional drilling. So your "explanation" explains bupkes. Sorry if you can't follow why that is. <<No, it really isn't. It will have a minimal effect for most of us.> <Yes, it really is. It would mean billions of dollars going to Americans, rather than foreigners, and those Americans would pay taxes on that income. That's a good thing. > The money goes to American oil companies. Yeah, we'd get their tax dollars. Whoopee. They pay taxes on oil they get from foreign sources when they sell it too. Face it, ANWR is a relative drop in the bucket - or barrel, if you will.

I'm honest enough to admit I don't know who is right. <That's true for oil that is more expensive to extract than traditional drilling, i.e. oil sands and things like that.> It's true for all oil. Listen, I grew up around oil wells, and I know what I'm talking about. <They pay taxes on oil they get from foreign sources when they sell it too.> High prices for foreign crude oil is an expense, not a profit.

You mean democrats? Those socialists? Well I guess if you hold the democratic party collectively responsible for war, inflation, recession, and our declining dollar - then yeah, what a bunch of scurvy dogs "they" are. >> Democrats take over congress and the economy goes into recession, fuel prices are sky high, food prices are way up, housing market collapses, unemployment rises....Some change. << Democrats didn't "take over" congress - they won a majority - courtesy of US voters. But in case you haven't been paying attention, every move they've tried to make - every piece of significant legislation they've tried to enact - has been blocked and stymied. By guess who? If you're looking for a culprit to blame all of our societal ills, you're looking in the wrong place.
