She always brought her 3 young children with her, (about ages 1, 6, and 7 years old, at first meet). Quite oftentimes her oldest daughter would translate for us. BUT NEVER during the course of those years did that woman's English ever improve. I was brought up in the US School Systems, and taught English. That darn well be the official language of the US and Business within the US.

All teachers and the principal were completely respectful of the students' opinions whether they agreed with them or not. Even though my daughter didn't particpate I was able to see how they did this first hand because I was at the high school before and after school for different things.

Unfortunately, those sorts of events no longer have the influence they once did. The population is no longer concentrated within blocks of a city's courthouse square and, for the most part, big city protests don't reach the outlying communities. If you are going to walkout or boycott, I think it is appropriate for the walkout to be disruptive. Otherwise, why bother? I don't think it matters if you are a student, employee, etc. Arranging participation in these sorts of events so that it doesn't inconvenience anyone or cause any disruptions is counter to the purpose for which they were organized in the first place.
