    Personally, I'd be more than happy with something like the photo I've linked to below. Would your association accept something like that?

    Would you be allowed to install artificial turf? Back in 70's, it looked horrible, but modern "astroturf" can look and feel quite realistic.

    It depends on the Association. The subdivision I live in has an HOA and I am on the board. We see our main function as just maintaining common areas like the boulevards and the two parks. We don't make much effort to strictly enforce the HOA covenants unless someone does something really out of line and we get a complaint. We kind of figure "hell, this is SW Missouri... no one would listen to us anyway". Folks down here don't like being told what they can do with their property.
