I went in to the Casting Center and told the receptionist I had an appointment. After I filled out the required paperwork they reviewed my application and paperwork right there in front of me and asked me to continue with the process because my schedule looked good. I saw two different people get turned down within 10 minutes of being there. I then had to watch this awesomely cheesey orientation video. If the Disney environment sounded ok to you then you advanced to a web-based interview. There were two sections in the interview. In the first they gave you a situation and you had to choose the response that best matched you. In the second you had to answer strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree or strongly agree to the statement provided. At the conclusion of this they asked that you wait in the lobby for an interviewer, or "Recruiter" as they are called, to assist you. I got called up with another lady and we were told that based on our scores from the web based interview they would like to ask us back to the next round of the process. I saw three people out of the now six or seven in there get cut after this, including the girl who had started with me whom I really liked. The receptionist asked us to wait in the lobby for the recruiters to get out of their weekly meeting. I sat in the lobby for another hour watching Cast Member TV, parts of Sleeping Beauty and Enchanted, parts of The Making of Mary Poppins and about 8 more showings of that silly orientation video. Finally I was called in by a nice recruiter named Jenny. Based on my web interview she saw potential in me for a Guest Services position, but she needed to talk with me and get a feel for my person before she made and decisions. She asked me some pretty simple questions. "Why Disney?" "Why these jobs?" "What are your long term goals in or outside of our company?" And then came the fun ones. All of a sudden I was a Cast Member who had the world mad at me. "A family is really excited for the fireworks. Two hours before the show they ask you where is the best place to view them. Where do you direct them and why?" "Fast forward two hours. The fireworks get cancelled due to weather and the family is very upset. They track you down and begin to complain and yell at you. How do you help them and handle the situation?" "A family has been trying to eat at Blue Bayou. They've been at the resort for five days and they called prior to their trip but just can't get in. You're the hostess and they are really upset with you. What do you tell them?" "You're still a hostess at the Blue Bayou. Its our busiest night of the year and the guests who have priority seating have been waiting for their tables for 45 minutes. How do you interact with them to ensure they stay happy and will enjoy their dinner?" After answering all these questions Jenny wanted to research positions I could fit into within the company. I waited in the lobby again while she did some research and when I got called back in I had a choice. She wanted to put me at a lost and found type job where I could grow into City Hall since she saw the potential, but there were no openings. She also wanted to make me a Blue Bayou hostess, but again no openings. I had the choice to take a job as a DCA quick service restaurant cashier and start training the second week of September, with the opportunity to apply for transfer in January, or waiting around and hoping a job would open in the next six months. I took the job because if I apply for transfer I have to do an interview but I can't loose my job. If six months goes by and no jobs open up I'd have to do that whole process all over again. Once I accepted the job the first thing she said was "So would you like a nickname on your badge or is Brittany fine?" That was when it hit me that I was hired. I just have to go back on September 8th to fill out all my paperwork and starting September 13th I'll be in training!
