I have been heard telling people it is a "marvel of the modern age" and that is for a couple of reasons. Firstly the place is actually a MARVEL. Secondly it's a MARVEL that something so grandiose and incredible can be built with the Disney name on it these days. We all know who footed the bill, of course!

But I also know that Lee dislikes it! LOL. It seriously does look like a fantastic place- Very much rooted in Disney tradition and quality while being a modern, technically advanced place.

I don't like any of those port themes - happy with the BGM (particularly the Aquasphere suite) but never a fan of any of those overly grandiose songs. I never quite understood why they needed to have a song for every port of call either - it isn't as if they have served much purpose except for being inserted into some of the seasonal shows and Meet 'n' Smile. Also hated Sea of Dreams.......I see a pattern here! I think the point is that I have to listen to those songs way too much - they tend to overuse them during each anniversary.

Don't let our very subjective views influence your decision. TDS is the most beautiful and detailed park I've ever visited, but it's not going to appeal to everyone (Disney fan or not).

Having all those theme songs reminds me of EPCOT Center, and how it had a song for every attraction...something that unified the park, and made each attraction unique.

What theme park isn't?! It's all themed, it's all fake (if I am going to say it, I might as well be honest!), and it's all superficial in that sense. But theme parks, especially Disney's are crafted in a way that lend themselves meaning, and in that portray places that AREN'T superficial. Did that make any sense? Am I going to start a dialectic with Lee? <--------- Is too tired, should finish studying and go to sleep. LOL

It would have also helped if they weren't all the usual suspects as the writers. The sole exception is the truly awful A Mermaid Song that was written by Andrew Lippa of all people. I guess I'm just a tad fed up with hearing the same John Kavanaugh songs - he wrote The Dream Goes On, American Waterfront and Arabian Coast. John and Joe Alfuso worked on just about all of them - which is why I feel they have such a homogenized sound. Talking of TDS songs - they even wrote an Opening Celebration Song (Come with Me) which I did like - and that was a Kavanaugh tune (lyrics were by one of my favorite theme park lyricists Carolyn Gardner who also worked with Steven Davison on Haunted Mansion Holiday, Legend of Mythica and LuminAria). I guess I just prefer my theme park music to be by composers and lyricists that aren't from that world. The likes of Jay Smith, Jonathan Barr, Steve Skorija are fine for the smaller seasonal shows but my favorite park music is by recognized composers. Mark Mancina's work for StormRider is excellent and then TDS has two of the best show scores around - Legend of Mythica by Alan Silvestri (and Glen Ballard) and BraviSEAmo! by Gavin Greenaway. They are just able to bring so much depth to the score. I guess we have been spoilt by having so much original music in the two Tokyo parks.
